Old gate to fence
Comments (9)Kirk - here is the history.... I sold my house in Nov of 2006...had to keep everything in storage until we had a place to keep stuff. Well, we finally got the garage built here in SC, so we went back to Mass to gather our stuff. Mostly all of it was in a storage unit, but alot was in one of my sis basement. We went up to Mass in an 18-wheeler with a 53-foot trailer, and it was packed tight! That is 42 years of living in MASS... Anyways, my sis was going around her yard, Want this ? Want this? knowing I have become a Garden freak and will be getting a greenhouse someday. And she offered me the old gate. I just loved it. Later on, Larry (her honey of 15 years, who just lost his Dad in April) and I were digging up some plants from his Dad's yard for me to take back to SC and he realized Denise gave me the gate and he got all teary-eyed and was SO happy that I was going to do something with it because his Dad built the fence and that was the gate that went between the two yards. So after hanging out with Larry and hearing all kinds of storeis, I knew I would definitely do something special. I did know Aldie as well, and he was a wonderful very loved man. Aldie had also given me Mimosa's when I first baught my house in Mass, he would always pot the seedlings, grow them and give them away because Olga, his wife was originally from NC and he just loved the native plants there. He was a great man and will be missed by all. Thanks for asking....See MoreRoses at Aldi!!
Comments (54)@vaporvac Those varieties sound cool, we don't have Menards in Richmond yet. Southern States gets some interesting potted roses. The wally world roses are now $3 from $6.44. I planted one called Love last year, that sitting out in the sun, in the middle of summer, in a body bag-but still alive! Figured a rose that survives that much mistreatment deserves a chance:) It was $2- that is the only rose so far (after Canary, sugarmoon, First crush, lemon fizz, alcymist) that was not affected by our intermittent freeze and warm ups. For its first year putting out many new growth and no fried up leaves. Wicked Thorns on it though. Duchess Brabant might have died-looks dead. I covered her with straw for insulation- but the tops all gone. still, I will leave her alone and see if she lives. Aldi-Also saw st josephs coat, elizabeth, gold medal, olympiad, easy red rose, some kordes hardy shrub rose (can't remember name)pink peace, peace, Heirloom, sunsprite (my favorite yellow so far), don juan, america, iceberg, jfk, westerland, love(hard to kill rose), pinata (i think). and more.. home depot- had the usual same ol same variety. Christmas tree shop-lily pons (potted) @7$. Other varities were sub zero ones bred by dr. brownell....See MoreMy maiden voyage to Aldi
Comments (6)It's an interesting place isn't it? And I think it has an interesting history. All started from a mom-n-pop store way back when and the two brothers eventually took over. Trader Joe's and Aldi (short for Albrect Distributing) were split off because the two brothers got in a fight over cigarettes. There's stuff I really like, stuff that's perfectly fine and much cheaper than anywhere else, stuff that's average and comparable in price and stuff that's well, garbage and even sometimes overpriced. The ads are misleading at times. They don't always get in the items they're supposed to and sometimes they get the stuff early. So you never really know what you're going to find there. It's not a store where you'll do all your shopping, but it certainly give you the chance to spend a lot less. Enjoy your adventures! Oh, and doesn't it just make you burn about the price of spices???...See MoreAldi stores
Comments (238)Yes, owning the processing center is what is called vertical integration. Allows for increased innovation in that a company can begin developing new products with the raw materials as well as expanding into similar products/ development in the same plant. In the case of the Fort Wayne plant, some dairy farmers who had contracts with Dean Foods to supply milk are losing their contracts. Other dairy farms have gained new contracts supplying the WalMart processing center. Nothing new here. The dairy industry has been hurting for years. Partly a victim of their own success....burgeoning supply because better breeding has resulted in cows that give more milk than ever. And a victim of decreasing demand; Americans are consuming less milk per capita than ever. Probably some measurable degree of that can be traced to demographics such as an immigrant population that has a higher percentage of lactose intolerance than Americans of European ancestry. While traditional supermarket operators around the country, such as Kroger Co., Publix Super Markets and H-E-B, have long operated their own milk bottling plants and other dairy-processing facilities, the move is a first for Walmart. As reported in a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, Walmart’s investment in dairy processing follows Kroger’s opening of a fully automated milk plant in Colorado and Albertsons’ debut this summer of a new, versatile milk bottling facility in Pennsylvania. Kroger now supplies 100% of its own fluid milk to all of its stores, the article said....See Morecolleenoz
