Comments (4)You can see at the bottom of the Blue Angel tag on the back side that it says the plant is from Q&Z. The picture is also the picture of BA on the Q&Z web site. I think, but I'm not sure, that the Blue Cadet label is from Walters. What does it say on the back? Steve...See MoreBest Place(s) to Buy Metal Labels/Markers for Hostas? Cheap?!?
Comments (17)Thank you guys for all of the quick responces! Just as a sidenote incase anyone is interested: I also enclose in each hosta a second cheap plastic label I stick way in the dirt just incase the metal one gets displaced, so I always have the hosta name in a second place. I notice though that even black Sharpie markers do not last forever. And if the sun hits any part of it, forget it. However, if you get their Metallic Silver markers that are meant to write on dark surfaces, these really stay forever. I have had labels out in the sun for years with no fade so far. And, I also just discoved yesterday at Staples for the first time, that Sharpie now has Oil-Based Paint Markers! They are specifally made to be Weather-Water-Fade-Resistant. The pack I got was one Gold and one Silver. But on the back of the package, it says that they also come in other colors, so I am sure you could find black too at some point. They also have them in different points, med, fine, etc. I just thought I would share that while we are on the subject! Christy...See Moremini hosta labels
Comments (2)I use the rigid, plastic, 6" nursery pot labels, but instead of the so-called permanent ink markers (which, as you pointed out, don't last!), I use a #2 black lead pencil. The writing will last as long as the marker. The marker is then inserted into the soil behind the plant, leaving about 1" exposed. If you can find a color other than white, (yellow one's are often available), then the birds will ignore them. They will often "pick" the white one's to line their nests at the bottom. A predator, looking up at the nest from below, will think that the white hue is the sky and leave the nest alone. Maybe a bird's brain is not as small as we previously thought!
