I face a very similar dilemma due to plumbing and ventilation systems in the wall behind my vanity. Also, there is a pocket door in the wall to the immediate right of the vanity. To the left of the vanity is the toilet. My floating vanity is 36" wide and 24" deep. The bathroom is 6' x 10'2". I however have decided to use an overhead vanity fixture with a center projection of 4" - 5". I found it helpful to look outside of the options available in bathroom lighting for overhead sconces. That is, wall lights and sconces that may not be rated for damp areas. I do not know if this option will work for you, but it does increase the selection size. In my case, I may or may not need the additional lighting from an overhead sconce, but I have been told one can never have too much lighting around the vanity mirror and the key is to have enough lighting so that there are no shadows on the face. I have one overhead low-voltage can over the sink and another one a couple of feet before the vanity. I also have another wall light mounted beneath the floating for ambiance. I have another low-voltage can over the toilet and another one in front of the toilet. There are also two low-voltage cans over the tub/shower combination. The only other light source is a 5'6" x 12" sandblasted clerestory window above the tub/shower combination. The bathroom walls are 18" bands of off white limestone (crema europa) with 3/4" bands of brown granite (antique europa). Floor is antique europa. Ceiling is same limestone with a 6" border of labrador antique. Kelley kdockrey@adelphia.net

I would not have the towel over the toilet. The towel will be IN the toilet :) If you cut down the bar as Madtown suggest, look at Baldwin brand as the bar comes out from the post and can be cut to the length you want. Others can do this too. These post on the Baldwin I bought are fairly long, so easy to get a towel draped. I cut mine down to a 14" bar. None of the 12 to 14" bars that I saw fit my needs. I spent $18 for the Baldwin brand bar off Ebay, and it is chromed and solid brass. Brass is easy to hack saw through. Here is a picture of my shortened bar. Thats a 14" center to center bar. See how the post bring the bar out nicely from the vanity. That is the easiest bar to put a towel into. I change the hand towel out daily and can practically toss it into place. I don't know if this example is your style or not but your drawing is rather traditional looking, so I thought my picture might help. To be honest once the bar was up I am never inclined to look at the style details. This last picture you posted looks just like it is painted the color I used :) Benjamin Moore "Bunny Gray". It looks like a light blue but is considered a gray. Who knew I would love it! But it was the perfect color with my marble listello. As far as towel rings go. I have never had one. They are just fussy looking to me though. I see them as too unstable, with just one connection. One has to lift the ring, then insert the towel. For kids I think a bar would work better. I could see even me twisting a towel ring off the wall :0

Mike, I remember helping you before. Glad you're mounting the sconces on the mirror, which will give you some light bounce. I would draw out the vanity and wall on graph paper and place the sconces accordingly. The issue is the unusually large space between the sinks causing your sconces to look shoved to the ends of the mirror. You do not want option B, overhead lighting. You might get away with three sconces but you'll probably need four with the slim style. You should consult a lighting store to be sure they'll provide enough light.

LOL, YES, I am on overload for sure. I can see the finish line or maybe I am the horse that sees the barn! We have been remodeling since 2011. Yes, we have a heater,, vent, nightlight combo in all bathrooms. I am a big believer in them. We are changing the mirrors, cabinets, lights, and the tub will be changed to a shower. The marble floor will stay. The previous owners put that same marble in the kitchen. You can probably imagine what it looked like after 20 years on a kitchen floor. It was awful to remove, so we will keep the marble floor in the bathroom. We will probably go with white and/or and gray tile because of the black and white marble. We have already installed a white Toto toilet. The electrician asked what I am using for lights. I had no answer because I didn't know he was coming today until he texted last night. I will try to get into a bathroom showroom Thursday. Thank you!
