what would you do to improve the exterior of our house?
Comments (15)Thanks all! Ok, so no shutters. Got it! 1 less project ;) And we are actually fog coating with that beige color stucco. No paint. I do love the mock up of the darker color! But I wanted a lighter color for hopefully keeping the house cooler. I would have loved off-white but afraid of looking dirty. I’m happy with the color. Need to get the other 3 sides fog coated now. And I think I like the darker brown trim along the roofline too. Our windows are brown/bronze so I think that’s a nice compliment. But I’m still unsure about the trim around the garage and front doors. I like the idea of a lighter color (grey/green or a greige) there. Something that will compliment the house & the landscaping which will have all shades of green. And also my teal/turquoise pots (that I don’t have yet). I’m trying to get it to have a Mediterranean feel even though I know it’s not a Mediterranean style. ;) But I’m having a hard time envisioning the grey/green or greige trim. Can anyone mock that up? Any other thoughts on the trim? Here’s a pic of our front entry. It’s a work in progress! But you can see the trim. And clearly I need to tile the floor but we might extend it a bit. I’m thinking travertine. It was a very 70s dark brown time with flowers (?!?). We’re getting there! Thanks all! Keep the ideas coming please :) Love them!...See MoreWhat to do to update 80’s house exterior??

Comments (5)@decoenthusiaste Thank you for your comment! So when I say recent, I guess it's been a little over 6 months, time flies! Our neighborhood homes are all very unique builds from the 80's on very large lots so I'm not overly concerned with clashing as there isn't anyone too close to us but it's also hard to pinpoint a neighborhood "style". Many of them have the contrasting color outlining (which I'm not a huge fan of either), and a combination of materials: stone, stucco, brick, wood siding, etc. I'm holding off on the landscaping up around the house because we will probably be doing a major reno to the exterior and I don't want to worry about new plantings being messed up during that process. I have attached close ups of the existing door. Ideally we'd replace it with a double door and add some type of covered porch, though I've been told that would be tricky with the roof line (I don't have enough experience to agree or disagree with this). We've been toying with the idea of squaring up all the arches and going with some style of Hardie Board Siding instead of the stone/stucco combo to help update the overall look. Any thoughts on this or helping to add character to the house? I just feel like it's very blah and not the warm inviting look we're going for....See MoreDo you remember 1969?
Comments (43)Pal, She is done with her project and so I was not going to post further, but since you brought it up. this is 100% true: I guess if you look at source material from the period, your daughter is not seeing what she expected, because there tends to be a certain amount of romanticized revisionist history So even though everyone might have had brown and green very dull rooms, she has been "taught" that the 60s looked like ...Peter Max. I was trying to convey this above by saying it doesn't have to be a realistic room, it can be what AD said rooms looked like. Which, even today, are totally different things. Since this "living room" set up was a backdrop. not required, and entirely tangential to her project, and since her choices were limited to free decorating software, she ended up choosing items that probably were not in anyone's LR! Carol, My DDs think sunken living rooms are TDF; apparently they are a thing on Tiktok....See MoreHU-918119203
