Exotic Granite Countertop - What do you think??
Comments (32)Jennifer, thanks and thereâÂÂs no harm in looking so go for it =) Hollysprings, thanks for your input! =) ItâÂÂs not what you think. I go to high end showrooms and search internet websites as well " I get the name and price of the slab IâÂÂm looking for and start my search again with the private sector rather than the box stores or the very big high end shops. I was originally looking for the exotic carnival countertop when the gentleman said he doesnâÂÂt have that specific one but has a few other exotic types I may like if I liked the Carnivel. I have luck finding most of what IâÂÂm looking for in the smaller private sector. IâÂÂve used similar countertop service providers in the past with no issues (IâÂÂd like to think IâÂÂm able to tell armatures from professionals), IâÂÂve also walked away on quite a few when IâÂÂm not confident in their services. Although I am excited about the price, it is not at all the driving force. IâÂÂve gone as far as coming close to ordering from the states very expensive slabs but decided against it since pictures are not always accurate. Bottom line is most of the time items are expensive due to the very high mark-up costs and a little shopping around helps. My Uba Tuba 16x16 granite tiles in my foyer cost over $20 per square foot special delivered at home depot and I paid just over $4 per square foot (installed myself) and no- not china. Baltomom, yes I was afraid it wouldnâÂÂt be the best match despite how much I loved the granite itelf. Holly-kay, thank you! =) Snookums, yes itâÂÂs black in that area. And yes I really love the granite and just wanted re-confirmation that it will go with my cabinets. Not included sink space, is 20 linear ft of countertop space considered more than average countertop space?...See MoreWhat do you think about these counter stools ?
Comments (16)I like them! Not to sound like a broken record but I agree with K9arlines comment that you need more green to tie them in. I think a fruit bowl or tray on the island along with some pretty dish towels in a basket, or a canister. I'd love to see a window treatment over your sink that would complement and balance the bold pattern. Maybe a green ticking stripe? Or aybe not exactly this ( no Blinds for sure) but you get the general idea....See MoreWhat do you all think of Ikea countertops?
Comments (9)Thank you all for the responses! And Bpath- If I go, I will ask about the floor :) Writersblock- That was my concern, too. It is laminate and it's a good price...but it's not that much more on the Ikea website. We would be cutting out a pretty big section for the drop in sink...so maybe I'll keep looking. I still want something light green, blue or aqua. I know, almost everyone says to go with something neutral....but it's only 2/3 of the counter on one side of the kitchen. And half of it is going to be big white sink! LOL Does anyone actually use this type of counter top? Now, I'm wondering if it's going to work if I cut out a big hole for a 46" drop in sink??? Not my sink...but looks a lot like this one. Again, my friend gave it to me, when remodeling....See MorePlease, some advice about raising kitchen countertop 2 inches
Comments (15)We raised all our counters (kitchen and bathrooms) by 3" for our tall family. It's so much easier on my back when I'm making a big meal (eg holidays) and my son (6'6") and daughter (6'1") especially love their bathrooms. We did custom cabinets so we didn't just raise the toe kick or use a crown under the counter; we have larger cabinets so we have a bit more storage. The DW sits on a small platform, which is hidden by the toe kick. I've never been one to think too much about resale, because you can't second guess what someone else will want. However, now that my house is on the market I'm getting some pushback that some people don't like the high counters (esp. in the kids' bathrooms.) I've had 12 good years with my high counters so I'd do it again but wanted to tell you what I'm hearing. (To be honest I'm surprised because my grandma had standard counters and never complained, and she was 4'11"! I'm 5'11" and only raised mine by 3" to 39"; most people are taller than my grandma was so I feel like the counters should be fine for almost anyone.)...See MorePaul F.
