Comments (35)Not installed yet, but I pried open my wallet for Juparana Florencia (maybe it's Juparana Bordeaux) for two small counters on either side of the stove. We're doing a modest update, and using butcherblock from Ikea for the other parts of the counter. Given the strongly cream-peachy-rust of the existing saltillo-color floor tile (throughout the house) and the dark reddish brown walnut cabinets ... there were a lot of remnants in the boneyard that looked like baby-poop yellow-brown next to them. I was in full "satisficing" mode - a remnant looked good on that day was going to be my pick unless they all sucked. The cutters did a great job and cut so a continuous "vein" of dark chocolate with peridot-like green inclusions will run from one counter to the other. Here is a link that might be useful: Juparana Florencia...See MoreWhat do you put on your new granite counter tops?
Comments (15)We just had our template done yesterday so I won't have granite for another 2 weeks or so but I'll probably do something similar to what I've done in the past. I have a clear glass bowl that I keep lemons and limes in (I use lemons a lot in cooking) I also have a paper towel holder and my my coffee pot out and usually a small potted plant on the sunny part of my counter. I cannot live without having my cookbook out so I have a decorative plate stand that I use for it (see link below). The majority of my cookbooks are stored over my range in the cupboard and I have to drag a chair over...so instead I've compiled my most frequently used recipes into one book and it sits on the counter. Here is a link that might be useful: plate stand similar to the one I use for my cookbook...See MoreWhat do you think of the granite slab for my kitchen counter top,
Comments (18)I prefer the first one. I can tell you from experience that once the slab is horizontal on your countertop and cut up, it won't look quite as busy, but will give just the right amount of visual interest. Plus the first one looks more high end. The second one looks like what goes in every tract home....See MoreWhat do you do with old granite counter tops?
Comments (5)Habitat ReStore are independently operated and write their own donation acceptance policies, in general. There are some standard acceptance policies mandated by Habitat international. Call or look at your local affiliate website for what they accept. I ran Restores in TN and TX. We accepted them as we had space. Some stores don't have space. Habitats only sell the pieces we don't care about a customers fabrication requirements. Customers do what they want after purchase. Many will take a piece for $25 and make it work for them. Space is the issue....See MoreKBH
