Weekend Trivia -- Sunday
Comments (29)Well, I believe we have arrived at our destination, tous ensembles?? Oui, yes, we are here. Downs made his first television news broadcast in September 1945 from the still experimental studio of WBKB-TV (now WBBM-TV), a station then owned by the Balaban and Katz theater subsidiary of Paramount Pictures. He became a TV regular, announcing for Hawkins Falls in 1950, the first successful television soap opera, which was sponsored by Lever Brothers Surf detergent. It's been upward ever since!! I had no idea he was such an accomplished guy! He has twice been paired with Barbara Walters: the syndicated television program Not for Women Only in 1975 and 1976 and then the Emmy Award-winning co-anchor of the ABC news TV show 20/20, a primetime news magazine program, from the show's second episode in 1978 until his forced retirement in 1999. His closing tagline "We're in touch, so you be in touch", was written by Brock Brower. The asteroid 71000 Hughdowns is named after him. As of 1988, the U.S. census bureau determined that a stunning 13% of the population believe that some portion of the earth's moon is actually comprised of cheese. Seriously guys?? No cheese-believers here, I believe! For everyone: Thanks for playing, see you all next week!! Nancy. Here is a link that might be useful: First Man on the Moon...See MoreHow to make my LR cozy?
Comments (148)Kelly - "That room screams for some bold blacks, more stuff on the walls and tables" Do you just mean different tables? I love black. The paisley on the furniture makes me afraid to put any other pattern with it. I thought the rule was if it's large or smaller and has the same color it can work but nothing seems to look right with it. A poster here that I haven't seen or heard from (hope she's ok) for a long time sent me photos of her neighbor's house. I would love to post a photo of that family room but I promised I wouldn't. They have a huge basket with blankets beside the couch and it looks really good. I love the whole room. All those pictures you posted look cozy to me except the last one. I would have to edit some of the stuff out of them to live there though. Hmm.. The first picture I posted from the book I don't think looks like it has tons of stuff. I wanted to add, I know I said I liked your lamp in the photo I posted but I really like your whole room. Very cozy looking. Alex - LOL Granny-punk. I'm not granny but I'm not punk either. I look and dress what is considered norm. Just so nobody's wondering. ;) That is hilarious though. While I like the pictures Kelly posted they are too full of too much for me. Interesting observation about what we like and what works for us. There has to be a happy medium. Are you who I'm thinking of? Didn't you post a photo of yourself on the conversation side a year or so ago with your DH? If so, I would've never guessed you were 40. I figured we were close to the same age. I bet we'd have a blast! Bronwynsmom............ where are you? :( Did you abort mission? This thread's soon going to kill off....See MoreMythical critters we'd love to see in our rose gardens
Comments (44)Ha, Jim! Looks like you captured a photo of the elusive Grouchodeer! Beneficial to the garden because they drop cigar ash around the beds but dangerous because they don't look where they're stepping while they wiggle their eyebrows milking the audience for laughs. Just wait till his brothers start showing up - hoo boy, that's A Day at the Races. Diane, I was thinking your badgers did sound might useful at chasing away the mice (I'm fine if the coyotes finish the mice off), but the "super at digging" part sounds suspiciously fraught with danger. I can imagine a badger uprooting an established rose because some fool gopher snuck in there for protection. I imagine you don't let small dogs or cats out into the garden at night either, for fear the same fate awaits them. You have quite the Wild Life out there.
