Mix of metals doesn't seem worth worrying about -- that's pretty common these days. I might turn the light fixture to face down, but just because it seems unnaturally high. For the corner/mirror, I think I'd try to find a nice wall cabinet that could go in that space, to act as a linen closet and give you a bit of a more intentional-looking solution. It's probably ok to block that wall switch if it's a duplicate of controls you have elsewhere, but you have to stay slim enough to avoid the window. Ikea has the right kind of thing. (Most of their explicitly bathroom cabinets are tall and narrow, but you could use one of the other bookcase/door/basket systems to the same end.) Otherwise, you can't do much to make it less brown, other than by putting in some colorful rugs and towels with art to match. It's possible that the paint could be a bit cooler, and I suppose you could paint the vanity from red-brown to white, with some effort. But really, this is a perfectly nice bathroom that just isn't to your style. Dress it up in things that feel more like you and then don't worry about it for a while.

Hi we really need to update our bathroom had a pink sunken tub so we painted it with homax paint not so sure I'm satisfied. Would consider replacing possibly with a sunken tub or a freestanding. The cabinets are in good shape and we painted them a pretty dusty blue. Would like to update the lighting in the space, and the flooring shower area.

In my mind, start first with function and flow. If there's something about the function and flow of the bathroom that you don't like, fix that first. As people have mentioned, are the countertops the right height, does the lighting work, venting, materials holding up, tub finish and surround in good shape, etc. Then, what do you hate the most? Sounds to me you don't like the color scheme. Then in my mind, although I can't see clearly, it's the brown and beige flooring that is giving you the most unhappiness. While real stone countertops are nice, you can live without them. If you hate them also though, replace them too. New cabinets won't be that much more expensive, but real wood ones can be repainted with fairly good results. They are the least of your worries from every perspective. The flooring has to flow with the bedroom flooring. Not necessarily match but not fight . . . I'd start with the flooring because that is the easiest to replace before you get all your furniture in. Chose something neutral but in a color you like. You have one of the worst offenders from the 80s and 90s IMHO, that beige checkerboard vinyl or tile flooring with brown grout or simulated grout. It's just not restful on the eyes. We had that in our kitchen and were immediately so much happier when we replaced it with a more neutral overall pattern that didn't shout "Pavement!" Fancy fru fru touches can be added elsewhere. No one ever regrets putting in high quality, neutral flexible flooring, IMHO. People usually put expensive high style flooring in a smaller room if they are of modest means. If you're doing the whole house with new flooring, do that first. Come up with the color palette that you like for the house. Then go from there. We have neutral walls and neutral wood and vinyl flooring in our house, very flexible as to many ways to decorate. Even easy to change out as your tastes change our you get sick of some colors. That's the way your house is now, it's just done with a palette that you don't like . . . If you don't like the brown trim that's easy to paint now too. Once you do that, and change out the shower curtain to something you like, you will be surprised at how much less the bathroom bothers you . . . at that point, see where your budget is and go from there. At my last house, I had a hideous bathroom with aquarium blue trim and wainscoting. The previous owners had a shower curtain with giant fish on it. It dominated the room. I changed it out for plain white and immediately the bathroom was less onerous . . . In my case, the tub and tub surround was shot, so that's where we spent our money. Even with the aquarium blue, the whole thing became instantly a different vibe, without a strong contrast, the blue was much less noticeable. That's why I say go for function with your money. The new fixtures, refinished tub and tub surround with nice tile instead of a plastic molded thing that had worn out, was a dramatic change in the function of that space and therefore my happiness.

First, would definitely not use/add a free standing tub. Either buy or create a tub shower combination to put that in the 5' long indent with the faucet in the wall by the door to the room because that ensures more elbow room for a right handed person standing in the tub/shower facing the faucet. Then put the toilet -- choose a mid height rather than short one -- by the window at the end of the tub with its back against the same wall as the tub so you'll have a tub/shower wall partially blocking the view of toilet and give you a place to hang a safety rod and/or build in a niche for toilet paper holder into that wall just above toilet seat height. Create as much storage above toilet seat height in that wall as is practical such as for a toilet brush in a stand and a plunger and extra toilet tissue. Then, provided it is in good condition and still usable, add your pedestal sink directly across from and centered with the toilet with a medicine cabinet with mirror centered over that. Then, in lieu of a side vanity for the sink, add an alternative: between the pedestal sink and the door, add a shallow built in cabinet beneath that ?window? height? -- think stock tall overhead kitchen cabinet with shelves and doors -- but add a countertop atop it. Add a door stop the hinge of the door or to the floor or a wall (door knob) protector for the wall behind the door.
