Need help with redoing this living room
This living room is in a Colonial style farmhouse in Vermont. I feel like it could look amazing and would love some advice on how to give it a make-over. especially replacing some or all of the current furniture (a hodge-podge of furnishings from estate sales). Any tips on exactly what kind of furniture to get that would go with this style home?
The entire house is painted the same wall color so need to keep that but should I change the trim color to a white?

last monthThe room is quite charming but they selected furnishings from the 80s instead of simply going with classic style. Decide if you wish to keep the green. Select an area rug for inspiration and go from there.
The room can also be a bit more contemporary but still keeping it in a traditional style like you see below.

craft sand cement? help with living room redo
Comments (2)Beautiful inspiration room. I don't know about craft sand cement, but that is clearly faux coral in that picture. If you look closely you'll see the two pieces are identical. Have you considered buying those little boxes that are made to hang on the wall? You might get something in scale for the real coral you want to display and a little more modern like your inspiration. Here are a few at westelm and in the link below I found one at Target. Comments (28)OK, good feedback. thanks. How much wall is on the front door side of the entry before the opening begins. I can make a change once I have that info. How wide is the arch at the bottom? I have mixed feelings about the radiator cover. I have had a condo with radiators and I liked the covers because you could give them some use. I put granite tops on them and was then able to use them for some books, and plants. I can't see what the top surface is? You don't gain much by removing them IMO. I would paint them your trim color since they are basically trim. As to art, the size somewhat depends on what you are looking for in art. I have done all kinds of widths of art over mantels. The basic tradition is to have the art be approx. 2/3 as wide as the mantel. But with yours, I think you could go a bit wider and higher if you find something you love. Sometimes you find something you love and we have to create the visual space we need for the proper balance by adding candle sconces or tall candlesticks or some type additional element to properly proportion the area above the mantel. I would start by looking for something about 38-40" wide. How much space is there between the top of the mantel and the ceiling/crown? Lucky you...the pine floors are fabulous.
This is my house. Or was, as we sold it. I mixed furniture styles, and used needlepoint rugs. Dining table is walnut (new); chandelier is Currey and Company, spider back chairs are new (from Design Center). You can mix and match, new and old, but stay with the traditional style.What you don't see in this photo is my favorite piece...an antique Chinese wedding cabinet.
