Redoing my living room - need advice on colors and more
Comments (59)@Groveraxle: thanks! I hope they have something like this color fabric iption in Crypton! Wonder if my photo is depicting a different color (cos of lighting). How would you describe this color in my photo (I am no good with greige, blue grey, charcoal etc descriptions.. for me it is light grey, med grey and dark grey: terrible, I know!)? here is a link from the store website, does it look the same as my photo? : https://www.jordans.com/product/living-room/sectionals/rowe-townsend-3-piece-sectional-lz1662207 Also - for the cabinets: what height would be ideal given that there would be a couch close to it? and other side a TV needs to be on top......See Moresaved the best for last! Comments (2)The staged room is lovely and I think you should follow along. A 3-seat sofa and two armchairs work in almost any setting. Of course, the sofa should be 18" or less from the coffee table, so if you want to center the table with the firebox opening, the sofa will have to scoot closer. I think the TV built-in is well located, but you could change the color. I'd have a pro paint it once you've determined the colorway. In both arrangements the art is a bit too wide for the FP. Prefer to see it no wider than the firebox opening and hung 5" above the mantel without rising above the window frames. What's your plan for drapes? I think they will make the space if carefully chosen and hung. Is that hardwood or carpet? Difficult to tell from the pix. On the entry side of the room you could add a console table, lamp and art. I think you need more task and accent lighting. The ambient lighting coming from the ceiling seems fine, but lacks the intimacy that table, floor and art lamps add....See Morehelp me redo my living room!
Comments (24)Ann, here are a couple of initial thoughts to arrange your room. We have reproduced your room below based on the photos you shared. In the first layout below, two couches are kept in a similar way to the one in your photos. The chairs are made to face out to the windows, and the space between the windows can be used to place a panel and wall-mounted TV, in case you wish to change your mind and have a TV. If not, you could replace the TV with a large modern mirror/ panel/ or some such. This arrangement seats 6 - 8. The current flooring looks good, but we've tried to imagine a different one in this layout - grey carpeted. We have retained the form factor of your preferred Brooke but experimented a bit with colors. Not sure about the window treatment, but taking down the valances is a good start. Notice the subtle monochrome wallpaper to balance the room and go with the flooring. Here's the same layout but with a slightly different take on colors. The second layout below does away with the TV and makes the whole space feel more spacious. There is also seating for 7 - 9 people. The flooring hasn't been changed here. The room looks balanced - but can do with more accents, or you could even try some bold colors. These layouts are both inspired by the Scandinavian style. You can change styles and colors on your own (and see 360 views) here. We will be able to help you better if you share the dimensions of your room. Also let us know if you need help visualizing more layouts, styles and color options....See MorePlease help me style my living room
Comments (3)Looking for your advice on how to style this living room. It's open to kitchen and dining room. Is capet too light or too big? What shape & style coffee table? Can I fit another chair? What type? Main living area to be used with kids and guests....See MoreJennifer Hogan
