New townhome functionality

I need help with decorating this living room space. Where to position furniture, hang TV and decor. This is a 3 story townhome and this is the 2nd level. I have a grey leather couch, matching chair, coffee table and rug. I would like more comfortable couches but it was very difficult to get my couch up the narrow stairway. Would also love any suggestions for bar stools that would look good at the kitchen bar. Any help would be appreciated.

The room is divided by the door. I was thinking to get an area rug the full length of the windows to fill and define the Living Room as one space and separate from the Kitchen.

The only wall I can see for the TV and console is to the right of the closet. You can watch doing dishes. Can the sofa fit crossways in the room facing that wall? Then place the chair and coffee table with it.

A desk and possibly bookshelves could go behind the sofa against the wall opposite the TV and/or that window area.

I like Arhaus bar stools. But they are on pricey side. Costco, Target, Home Depot have the same for better price.

Well... tonights dinner for DH. Involved having to fry up seasoned pork chops, then sauting onions and apples, then creating sauce, and adding back pork to simmer. The controls are exacting and immediate. Messy dinner. Sticky rice had spilled on cooktop, errant onions, drips of sauce. All was wiped squeaking clean with a couple of sweeps of a damp paper paper towel and then i went over with a microfiber cloth. Done. I prepped my entire salad on the bakers table cause it's so easy to grab what I need from the frig right next to it and plop it on the table. I'm keeping my bowls in done of deep drawers of the bakers table. I baked my croutons in the speed oven and used my bottom on intensive bake to bake up 6 huge fat sweet potatos for during the week. (adding to dogs food and to cut up into salads for me for lunch). I totally guessed on what to use because I don't read manuals. So I winged it with Intensive Bake at 400. All potatos were carmelized within 30 minutes. I've never seen anything like it. They did drip onto the bottom of the oven so I have to think about that next time. You are being WAY too hard on yourself. It looks awesome and you picked exactly the right backsplash and grout - no easy feat. The bit of granite would be a problem if the backsplash was not quite right, but since it is you're fine. Trust me - anyone who sees that kitchen will just think it's beautiful. I do!!

We had been working on the kitchen today, and this was the idea that we finished the day off with (not final by any means but our most recent one). I have realized that this is always quite the process for the first time doing it, take some ideas in, do something, and then now have other issues. This is similar to what was my last floor plan, just moved the sink off center to give more space for the prep across the range. I then now have just seen Mama Goose's layout, and I do see some similarities, so I must be getting closer. I do like the idea of where the microwave is in your design, nice and near the fridge, as well as creating a counter near the top of the stairs. Also, having the pantry by the prep area is a good idea. My concerns, however, would be as follows - We dont want our main dishes to be below counter level. Being in a tall family, it is much nicer to have the dishes near the dishwasher but up above. The other thought was the counter space beside the DW in my above drawing would be our "appliance garage" area. I do feel however, doing like a split pantry (swapping the microwave cabinent with one from the pantry), would be a weird idea, but I wonder if it would be something that could be made to work, with all baking supplies by the DW counter, and canned goods/ cereals by the fridge. Switch spaces...put chandelier where the fan is...

There are no photos of the other space, but I will assume there are. more solid walls for living room furniture.

Choose one wall where is TV and make it focal. Then place sitting furniture facing it.

This is just where things landed when I moved. I haven’t gotten my TV hung yet. Do you think it would look better on the wall shared with the kitchen or where I have it now? The cable outlet is in the opposite wall but that is not an issue because I don't use cable. I also included the other side of the space. I am a single mom with a 5 year old. I don't need a dining room table. Any suggestions for making the other space a kid friendly play and homework space.

Your photo with the two pink pillows is how I laid out the floor plan in my diagram above. And with the TV to the right of the closet it should work for you where you have it....like I said you can watch doing the dishes.
