Knobs on the uppers-all doors, pulls on the lowers-mix of doors and drawers. Here's my reasoning: the pulls won't catch on my clothing or on the grandkids...and it's easier to put the child safety cabinet locks through the pulls. I don't know if either of those issues apply to you but our 5 visiting munchkins range in age from 12 months to 9 years so we needed to consider their safety in some of our decisions. I'm in the process of marking off the hole so DH and I can install the hardware tonight when he gets home...if I absolutely hate it I'll let you know. That's my 2-cents worth.

I have a pantry run in a hall just off the kitchen of stacked cabinets also. There are 4 doors top and bottom in 2 'pairs'. The lower are 56" and the uppers 22". I had also seen the 4 knobs clustered look but did not like it. Looking through photos I found one on a cabinet site where the lower doors had handles in the middle. http://www.canaancabinetry.com/gallery_7.php Since I was using handles on my drawers I tried it out by cutting out black construction paper knobs and handles, puttng tape rolls on the backs, then moving these "paper pulls" around my kitchen. Tried the all-knob look but liked the bigger handles on the long doors better (my pulls are 6.5"). So the pantry has knobs on top and pulls on the lower doors. Oh, my long doors also have a raised piece of wood panel across the middle like they are divided in two, so it lines up with the middle of that. Try playing with the paper dolls... I mean PULLS. It helps! :) Good luck!

'I thought, "Wow, this pull feels really right in my hand!" It was an arch pull just the right length to be comfortable for my fingers, the right amount of arch so I wasn't skinning my knuckles on the door, and smooth to the touch on the back. You can't tell that stuff from looking at a picture.' the 'feel' is important - don't forget the comfort in use. you'll be using those pulls/ knobs every day - a zillion times. because of my hands I'm going with very wide pulls - with a deep projection (the 'arch'). a 1.25" projection is about the smallest I want to use. As others have found, getting your fingers in that pull is important - w/o smushing them between the drawer front and the backs of the pull. Will your 'getting larger every day' son or your dh ever need to open a drawer or cabinet door? Their hands need to fit also! Many stores have their pulls on a board - try using it like you'd be pulling open a drawer. Can your fingers easily grasp the pull? the knob? I find knobs harder on my fingers (gripping them). The other thing I looked for (besides price) was detail - the more detail, the more places for bits of food, dust and gunk to lodge. That includes more work for me in cleaning them. I don't want more work... ease of use, ease in cleaning most detail online will give the 'projection' for the pull.

Generally, hardware is viewed by room. In a kitchen, it is possible to mix finishes for a more custom look. Really just depends on your taste. If you are matching hardware by floor, you really have nothing to worry about, unless it is all the same size shape and too repetitive and not conducive to the item it is placed on. Down a hallway, it is nice to have unified hardware as they are often all in one's line of sight. Rooms behind closed doors, go for what you like inside, does not have to match what is on the entire floor. My advice for your kitchen if it is not too late, it to find hardware that come in that satin brass finish you like but are handles and not just knobs. I assume you cannot return the ones I see in the picture. My suggestion then would be keep knobs on the bottom drawers, of which you have many and get vertical handles for the uppers in satin brass, just to break add interest and break up the repetition a bit. Ideally, I would do the reverse horizontal or cup handles on lowers and knobs on uppers. But go with what you love.
