Spring Meadow's online descriptions of the newer ones they are promoting mention 'Blue Bird' (correctly 'Oiseau Bleu', "blue bird" being a translation into English and not the actual name of the cultivar) being mixed up in the trade. The same will of course become possible with Blue Satin ('Marina') TM at some point, although it is rather early in its history for other introductions to have been put on the market in its place. Bailey nursery has their own blue one that their site says was selected from a block of blue seedlings. So apparently you can sometimes raise seed of a blue one and get a number of additional blue forms. Perhaps this is what happened with 'Oiseau Bleu', seedlings of it being sold as the original clone. Or some other factor like cultural conditions is causing variation in flower tinting and plant behavior.

luvbrugs; I am about to trim a rose of sharon hedge that is about 25 ft long, it consists of single white and purple plants. There is about 2 ft of growth from last year that is going to be trimed. Kianaj, go to the Monrovia website (www.monrovia.com) and use their search engine to find a dealer in your area who orders in from Monrovia. I just did that, and some local nurseries have informed me that they will order any crape myrtle from Monrovia that I want. I also wanted Peppermint Lace, but the nursery manager informed me that it is prone to powdery mildew here in the Pacific Northwest, so I will be purchasing the mildew resistant "Zuni", which they already have in stock, merely a few miles away from me. Unfortunately for you, you won't be able to grow yours outdoors as the crape myrtles appear to be stretching it at Zone 6, even. My CF bloomed every spring and every fall. Always covered in white fly. wood is very soft and breaks easily so here on the coast, always broken limbs. It is a short-lived, small tree. Maximum height 10-12`. Full sun, easy from seeds or cuttings. Can be cut back to ground as desired. Starts white ends up pink, white, pink and double varieties available. Also prone to mealy bugs and root rot. Hybrids less hardy. NOT salt tolerant! Lost to Ike. Rose of Sharon, much smaller, longer lived, shorter. Easy from cuttings or seeds. In the south prefers more shade, even full shade but will thrive and bloom in full sun if enough water. Full sun in the north, they live in Delaware. More choices in colors, red, pink, white, purple, w/eye, double varieties. Mealy bugs can be a problem. Tally HO!
