Help me finish my kitchen (dual post in decorating)
Comments (5)I am HORRIBLE with colors. I didn't used to think I was, but having just bought two gallons of paint that I'm pretty sure I won't use in my kitchen, I don't feel qualified to give that advice. My thought would be, if you want to bring in color, find barstools and a rug that you like together that MAY work with the paint, and if they don't, then re-paint. :) Can I ask an off-topic question? Your kitchen looks very comfortable and inviting. Do you know the dimensions of your kitchen, aisles, island, and overhangs? Today starts cabinet install and it looks like your kitchen might be roughly the same size. I'm sure we won't get to island placement/overhang size, but we should get there Mon or so. Maybe today! :) I had worked out where the island would be and how long of a potential overhang (mine will just be at one end) but working with an existing lighting/junction box may have me push it a few inches this way and that. Would you repeat yours as is? Buy your accessories at some place with a generous return policy and play away! Also think about draping various colors of clothing on your barstool to test them. :)...See MoreHelp me decorate my living room - Desperate help needed!
Comments (51)Hello friends. I am afraid I need your help once again! We have finally settled on a new sofa, accent chairs and the place we are getting all of this from has agreed to also throw in a rug for us if I happen to like one from their suppliers. I fell in love with a rug they have as well as accent pillows I think will match well. We have also decided on the color of the accent chairs and the model of the sofa. My issue : I CANNOT decide on a sofa color!!! Everyone is telling me to do light grey but I am afraid it won't go with the rug I like. I am swayed towards a white sofa (it is more off white, I will post a picture of the swatch bellow) in order to flow with my chairs and everything else. I had spoken to the designer who did our plan and she said I can go with a white sofa no problem. Everyone is saying do light grey. I know I can pick another rug but I am SO In love with the one I have chosen and I think it will make the space... Can anyone advise me on what to do? I do like a light grey sofa but I also really like the colors in the rug...We have to order this week in order to make it in time for Christmas and I am very undecided. You have all been so helpful and if you aren't utterly sick of me, I would appreciate the advice! Here is the link to the sofa we have chosen: https://mikazahome.ca/product/sevan/ We will get the 89 inch modification sofa with a 9 inch arm on one side (you can see example in the photos) and a 5 inch on the other end. Legs will be like in the second photo on the side. Here is a swatch of the white that we had chosen (ignore the leather, it is the material swatch next to it). Photo of the accent chair: Photo of the rug: Accent pillows: We are also hesitating for the accent chairs - there is another chair we like but it is not as much of a good quality as the one above. I will insert a photo here - feel free to let me know which one would be better. In other words, which chairs? Which color sofa? Do I go with light gray sofa and change the rug or go with off white sofa? Thank you!...See MorePlease help me decorate my kitchen
Comments (15)why are your panels on the ends of your cabinets white? were they wood and you painted them? just curious what happened there. I agree w/losing those white curtains. they do nothing for the kitchen and block your light. do you have to have window coverings? If yes, then try something like these I have similar slate floors and find that the neutral color jute rug w/black borders look very nice. find a size that will fit in front of the sink/stove area. maybe a 3x4 or 2x4? The chandelier is hung too high over your little table. lower it, or find a better replacement. look on craigslist if you're really on a budget. they sell dining table lights all the time for cheap. and don't forget, you can always change the color w/a metallic spray paint. look for a new little table while you're on there. that one is far too small for the spot, even if you don't use it. It looks 'off'. try doing one like this f...See MoreHelp me and my new to me house -decor decisions
Comments (80)Thanks Tartan- I was hoping you would see this. Yeah, the thing is for the offwhite it's in the reviews that people mention it is more of a gray than a cream... I can't tell. I know originally we felt that off-white was the way to go. The depth on this one, chatham is great (it' s the skinniest one of all the ones I considered). The reviews are outstanding- but the color scares me and the mahogany, looks good. Although my coffee table and end table are wood ( I think fruit wood). The size thing came up because I keep seeing suggestions that the console under the tv should be about 1/4 to 1/3 larger than the TV. The tv on that wall is not really centered on the wall- there is a light switch which I kind of didn't include in the wall. It was the outstanding decorators above, Flo and others who said I should go about 52-55 inches wide. Help me out, the TV is a 50 inch (diagonal) so the width is about 44 or 45 inches. !/3 larger would be 60 inches, 1/4 larger woudl be 55 inches. The Chatham is 52/53 inches. You see why I can't decide anything? I did use tape to see and I will post those pix here. This is 52 inches And here is 60 inches. Do I have the tv stand butting up to the window or leave room like I have done? FWIW, the kitchen is my other next project so while it adjoins the living room and all, who knows what color wood I will have there. (debating wood vs off white. that should take me maybe another year to decide lol). Originally a few said that I shouldn't go for more wood tones, so that keeps me back to the off white. What do you think? I will repost some of the pix of the room that are further upthread. This below is across from the TV wall. other wall with fireplace. So what TV stand belongs in my room that I will be happy with? How's your clairvoyance working??:)...See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
