five gallon bucket+mosquito dunks+pond water+twigs: dragonflies?
Comments (14)it's been over a year now....towards the end of last summer the pond had two resident frogs, and then one much bigger resident frog. by late last fall my 55 gallon drum pond had an established residece of water fleas and other barely visible critters late in may my son and I found a quivering puddle of dying wood frog tadpoles in a just dried up vernal pool. we scooped them up and dumped them in the pond there appear to be larval insects down there now, at least ones big enough to kill and gut a tadpole, and now there is a graduating class of a few wood frogs each day (they come up and then split asap, perhaps because a big healthy water snake has also taken up lodging right next to the pond) all in all, it has come a long way in a year, and the bog garden i built last summer a few feet away is now an impenetrable mat of ferns and other plants will post photos...See MoreMelanie on 'This Old House'... Comments (29)Hello Scott: You are too kind and I really appreciate the props and your mistaken impression of me as a genius...idiot savant, maybe, genius, no. It's also been a pleasure reading your posts and I always enjoy your occasional lessons on Japanese garden design. As to the wellspring of my ideas, its neither of the two people you suggested, though in my secret underground lair, consulting with my Number 2 man (his name...Number 2) has proven to be illuminating on occasion. Seriously, if it weren't for Asha's musings, I wouldn't have come up with that plan at all. The "genius" as you call it is self-taught from my seemingly endless reading of gardening/design books, and tours of gardens all over the world. Scott, one thing I neglected to mention is that if you have any ideas, additions/subtractions or suggestions, please share them. And Melanie, no worries...I used Corel Draw to generate the plan, which is a vector-based drawing program similar to Adobe Illustrator. Perhaps we should talk in real time and we can get you up to speed on scanners and available software. Stay warm! spectre...See Morehow big of a hole can a rabbit fit through?
Comments (16)oh the nightmares im having lol yes 2 is a good idea one on each side. im also considering a beach entry, which sounds like a great option, but we will have to see how much more the pool will cost with it. we are surrounded by inground pools here, theres one to our left and one to our back all within 30 ft from our yard. and these people dont even lock their gates, ive watched the deer walk around our neighbors pool, i had one hand on my mouth and the other over one eye watching in horror! but they were fine (for now) but i wish they would close their gate! our other neighbor is ok and puts the latch on and i know they find mice in their pool often, never mentioned anything large though. but still i want the safest pool around. ill have to measure my dogs head to see if he can fit through 3". hes a 13 lb pekingese, hes over weight hes only supposed to be about 9 lbs lol, hes only a year and a half and gaining weight by the day. its my 2 yr olds fault he throws food everywhere in places sometimes i dont know of and well Chip the peke finds it quicker than my eye ever could. i guess everything will fall into place once the fence and pool are in, ill send a pic when its done bunny hole and all hehe, the rate their going i figure will have a nice cold swim in october, oye...See MoreWho is a good patient?
Comments (13)My DH and I recently left our internist of a dozen years. He failed to offer me the Prevnar13. He failed to admit me to hospital after I was in his office two days in a row, coughing my lungs out. He had prescribed three different cough syrups over a seven-day period, none of which helped. Eighteen hours after seeing him I was admitted via the ER, dangerously weak and with a minimal oxygen count. I was in hospital four days with pneumonia. My DH and I have always figured this guy was no whiz kid and merely 'OK', but waited too long to move on. We'd been 'assigned' him after getting a good review on the whole practice of which he was a new member. I've been the 'good patient' too many times in my life and have been seriously harmed for it. Now I work to inform myself before blindly following orders. I'm a good patient when I have a good MD -- and I have had two very good ones in 70+ years. I'm hoping my new internist will be as good as friends have said she is. (On my first visit she administered the pneumonia vaccine.)...See Morebengz6westmd
