Pretty please: redesign this master bath floorplan
Comments (6)Well, to add a bathroom, you have to subtract space from somewhere else or make the house bigger. If your target for space reduction is the master bath, then what about pushing the laundry room straight up into where the shower is now? Re-orient the door and re-arrange the fixtures in the new, smaller space. The laundry room might have to shrink to accommodate a decent sized bath, but that could work. If you have to increase the footprint, you could do this by bumping the whole RH wall out even with the master suite bump-out. I would ask: how important is it for your parents to have a bathroom that opens from their room? If the other bedroom is going to be an office, and your daughter's room will be downstairs, is it likely that anyone else will be using the bathroom at the same time? Perhaps, if they live with you (or are you just talking visit?), the 3rd bedroom could be their den, with the chairs and TV, giving them a 2-room suite. Also, the linen closet in the bathroom could be eliminated to make the BR closet bigger....See MoreSingle floor plan review
Comments (53)Arialvetica -- I'd go ahead and spring for the hard copy. I have a bunch of books I recommend for clients getting ready to build and that one heads the list. Of course with myself being an architect, the books have a design slant but they can cover any building topic. And if a client displays little interest in doing so, that's no big deal as they may be just relying on me to do my job but others are "into" design (and some REALLY into design LOL. I also have a list of 80 of my design thoughts I give them!!) as well as the whole design process. And for the lurkers out there, if you're getting ready to build I always suggest budgeting a few hundred bucks for books about it. The internet is great for spot info but for learning comprehensively about a topic there's nothing like a book. For example if I want to learn all about the Civil War, reading a book about it is the best place to start and then one can fill in spot info about specific generals or battles via the internet. Same with building....See MoreEmpty space Entry Space
Comments (3)Can you post a pic of the entire room where the fireplace is? Is the other door (in 1st pic) the front entrance. I'll be honest and say that it looks very cluttered to the eye. I think it's more all the stuff on the walls and door. Maybe you can create a true gallery wall vs the mismatched frames, etc, if you are wanting stuff on the wall above sofa table. Does that sofa need to stay? What is it directed towards? Also, have you considered built-ins (closed storage) flanking the window? Could be double duty as a mudroom of sorts. If you keep fish tank, it could be encased in the built in....See MoreHelp! Empty space in kitchen
Comments (35)Since I don't think dog bowls are particularly attractive or appetizing to look at (but necessary to feed your cute pooch), I might put a wood table there, like a small console or something that would kind of hide the bowls without interfering with access. Then place art above that. or if you do want to raise the bowls a tiny bit, a bar cart with a low shelf would be really cute there:...See MoreShadyWillowFarm
