Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 7/3
Comments (20)Funky, I'm so glad you're able to eat fresh vegetables again! That's fantastic. And the perfect time of year with all of the wonderful summer produce available. Pink, congratulations on fitting into your size 12s! To me that's really the best measure: which clothes fit. I too am struggling with hitting a weight threshold that my body just doesn't seem to want to get under. At the same time, I feel like the fact that my smaller clothes fit is far more important than the number on the scale. Maybe you've put on muscle if you're exercising more and your body composition is better even if the number on the scale isn't dropping as low as you'd like. Sue, that blue dress looks so pretty. I bet you look fabulous in it! I am envious that you have some fun occasions to wear pretty dresses coming up. It feels like I live in athliesure items at home and only go out somewhere fancy enough to wear nice jeans and a blouse. I need to find some excuse to wear a cute dress somewhere. This week I am being sort of lax between the holiday and my husband briefly being home on a break in the middle of several months long training in another state for a new company. I am still exercising every morning, but haven't been trying very hard to get in weight lifting. And I'm having some relaxing meals and cocktails together a few nights. Still doing my 2x 24hr fasting days with only 400cal dinner, though I haven't tried to push myself to any full 36hr fasts this week. This week my weight is either steady or down 1lb. It's always a little hard to tell. I ordered some new jeans in two sizes and looked at the smaller size and thought "no way that will fit", but it did. I am really happy with my size, though I do feel like another 4-5lbs might be nice. If I'm lucky maybe losing that would drop the remnant fat on a couple stubborn spots....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/4
Comments (13)Funky Yes to adjusting the IF eating window. That is what I attempt to do. When I have an early breakfast I finish earlier in the day and when I have a late supper planned I start eating later in the day. Most of the time. :-). Love the fact that that t-shirt fit! It shows that you are doing something right like maybe muscles are taking over and trimming you up. Strength training is wonderful for that :-). Not that I do enough of it to get muscles. Great news Gscience!. Losing weight and finding a way to comfortably maintain it is tricky at best. I'm glad it's working for you. With science behind you how can you not lose weight. Happy for you that you are having success :-). I found this article which talks about different kinds of fiber. I really need to up my fiber as well. Apparently fiber isn't best taken in a vitamin form according to the article. There is one derived from konjac vegetables but they are saying that whole food is more helpful in this instance. Not sure but found it interesting. Plus it's good for gut health and reduction in certain diseases. Always of interest to me. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/fiber-can-help-you-lose-weight#food-sources I have been doing well but the 2 lb loss didn't stick around. . Boohoo Boohoo. It was the first loss I'd had since my initial weight loss. Oh well. I am still continuing to run and I'm adding a block every couple of weeks or when I feel ready to do more than three blocks or four blocks or whatever. The dog I run with loves it which is very helpful. I'm not a fast runner and Adora keeps pace beautifully. Adora and her person will be going away for 4 months or maybe forever if her person loves it. So I must learn to run by myself. I'm enjoying it so much that I know I will continue. Both of my dogs are too old and infirm to be my running companions. Time to think of getting a new younger dog.. DH will come around ;-). As far as eating goes yes I am eating probably too much and particularly cheese but I am very careful not to eat too heavily on days when I am not going to be working out. Saturday and Sunday are my light eating days. I walk a lot on weekends with my dogs as well as during the weekday at night but it's still not the same since I don't do any running or any exercises. Sometimes the best laid plans of wombats and women.. I give myself lots of grace as if I were my own best friend when it comes to this. I've had to be pretty much my own best friend about eating because I eat I would say peculiarly anyway. I mostly can't eat out at all etc... Which leads to the conversation about going out and about and eating there wherever that is. I usually have to bring my own food and have to sneak refuse most of the food on the table. I just quietly take whatever looks the least migraine or kidney or gut problems producing. Not always easy but if I bring a few dishes that's what I eat mostly from. Unluckily my DBIL has been diagnosed with celiac disease so we often have to refuse the same things and the family is making more and more food that I can eat. I still have to watch portions though. Plus certain things like stevia are mood altering for me. I shake my head at that one every time it happens. They make me feel hi..gh. for want of a better word. The carrot cake is often made with stevia. I have to watch my portions with that one too. Although I want to eat two slices.. I'm not an easy date. By the way no problems eating dates. Shrug. Darn I've got migraine with aura. Time to go take some medication. Have a good week everyone!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/3/2024
Comments (16)yum, GS! I so love halibut! I haven't been keeping up with the thread this week, my apologies! I am doing ok-- keeping on, as they say. One major misstep was picking up an irish soda bread -- a fav. I was not as restrained as I thought I would be. Good thing it was a small one! Otherwise I have maintained a pretty healthy diet. The grazing lunch plates are working out well ... they are especially good when I would otherwise skip lunch due to meetings or the need to get something done. They are easy and I can eat them as I am working. A lot of people like to do meal prep and assemble them on Sundays but it works pretty well for me to assemble them as my coffee is brewing in the early morning... then they are just ready to grab come lunchtime. I have been struggling a bit with body dismorphia ... probably because I have been basically maintaining since Sept. I look at myself and just don't see the losses I have accumulated... so when I ordered a pair of shorts recently, I ordered a higher size than I should have. No big deal, I can exchange them-- but it was a warning flag that my body image may not be accurate. I think maintaining a positive body image will always be a struggle for me and something I need to work on more actively. Definitely looking forward to more light in the evening! It is rainy and dark today but need to get out and active. I've only done so once this week so far! Sorry this is a delayed response but Jococo, glad to hear you are making time for self care! Hair appts always help me-- not only do I look better, but I love those 2 hrs at the salon that are all about me!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/10/2024
Comments (15)Funky, I ate at a restaurant similar to what Clean Eatz looks like a month or so ago. It's called True Food Kitchen, and they have locations around the country. I was surprised at the quality of food for a reasonable price. I don't recall what I had, but I do remember thinking I could probably take half of it home and serve it over greens and quinoa or something. There were ways I could "stretch" the meal itself with healthy fillers. It's great that options like these are becoming more available. Legomom, I haven't eaten at Chipotle in several years, but it was a family favorite when my kids were younger and in sports. I recall getting the bowls, and would divide it in half and serve each half over more lettuce and added salsa for fillers. That might be an idea, and technically would spread out the seed oils/plastic exposure. I understand your concerns there. I recently switched to loose leaf tea because of microplastics in many tea bags. I found a great local source, but guess what? The bulk tea is sold in plastic bags. And last night I watched the What the Health documentary on Netflix, and now I don't know what to eat anymore. It seems all of our food sources have been compromised in some way. But the documentary did include Dr. Michael Greger, who I follow on IG and who my trusted dietician friend recommends as someone who's advice is science-based. He helps run this site: https://nutritionfacts.org/ It's a rabbit hole, though....See MoreFunkyart
