to accent wall or not to accent wall… and color combos

We are about to remodel our what will be the great room. It’s a south facing room and has a lot of natural light throughout the day. I am wanting a bold and comfy feel to the room with an eclectic twist. I am considering the surrounding walls in Kendall charcoal or charcoal slate color…and the accent wall in either deep royal or old navy by Benjamin Moore. The couches I have will have will be red and there are lots of browns and blue tones in rug(see photo). Should I either paint the entire room Kendall charcoal/ charcoal slate? Or should I mix a navy accent wall in the room? Accent wall would be where the two windows are on left side of photo.

With everything going on in the room I would paint all the walls in charcoal not have an accent one in navy. I certainly will bring some drama into the room with your furniture style... Please post another photo when everything is done!

Yep, this is entire furniture set I’m getting, plus the drapes. I didn’t know if the navy would make it too much especially with the drapes. As you can see… it’s super traditional and dramatic style furniture. I was hoping charcoal would add a modern mix to it plus the art I use to achieve that look.

I have used different colors of paint in the same room in my home, and in my mom’s home. She asked me to paint one of her bedrooms that had an adjoining bathroom. I used a darker intensity from the same paint strip to paint the bathroom to give the illusion that the bathroom was farther away. If you have an entryway that you want to “spotlight,” you could use that as an accent, or a fireplace wall, or some nice feature that you want to showcase. I don’t worry about what is “in” or “out” but do things that my husband and I like—we are the ones who live here, not someone on HGTV.

@Judy Graham It is vaulted and I think would look cool with an accent wall (doing this for myself, not resale, but still want it to look nice). The rest of the house will be pretty neutral so I really want to do a fun pop in here and I just love the color and other inspiration photos I have found. Carpet will be replaced soon with a lighter neutral. Technically not finalizing paints til it's in but trying to be efficient. I am really not questioning the teal though. I know it is not everyone's cup of tea but I just bought this so have many years to go in this house and one wall of dramatic paint can be repainted if future owners don't like it. I love blue colors.... Are you only covering the red ? Keeping the white trim and taupe/dark beige walls? I love Racoon Fur but it is a very almost black dark color. It can have a sheen of gray but you would need better lighting. I love Polo Blue by BM but it will be too dark for you. I used Benjamin Moore Polo Blue.. The cabinets were made by Cabico but we color matched at BM store and they said it was Polo Blue. We have lots of light so it shines bright in the room. On the far right is Benjamin Moore Polo Blue Benjamin Moore Old Navy in the Aura matte finish might be hale navy BM Benjamin Moore Hale Navy HC-154. Hi sorry no one has answered yet, did you go through with anything yet? I think it’s not easy giving advice on white without being there in person. However, there can be some clues like lighting conditions / direction of window facing, uou said you are using terracotta, so you can find something with an orange, red or yellow undertone in it and avoid anything with blue or green… unless you want it to stick out. I think you getting samples is a great idea. I found light colors arent easy because it can have indertones that you might or might not expect to show up & can look dofferent from room to room. Shoji white I think has green undertones, but depending on the light snd surroundings, it can look different. you can see how you like it and maybe play with some color cards on the fsn deck first and look at the darker version on each to see what undertones are at play, but thats just the start. Do update when your finished!

No accent wall- there’s plenty going on without it. Pull your wall color from the rug. It doesn’t look like it has a gray in it.

No accent wall. I would make sure you get the right rods for the drapes. Making sure the are placed properly. Maybe add drapery rings to them to give them a different look.

Your throw pillows accessories and art will be key in bringing this room together.

The Kendall charcoal has a brown ish undertone that comes out in the room, I felt like that would tie in well with the rug
