Design Dilemma Paint Home Decorating

Paint trim walls ceiling..shoji walls and…

Going with SW Shoji on walls (have done all the homework, it’s perfect). Struggling with trim and ceiling. Shoji on the ceiling will probably be too dark.
We have shutters that seem to match high reflective white(HRW).
We have crown molding that needs painting and ceiling.
Do we match shutters or will that be too bright on crown and baseboards?
Pure white is a little too gray.
Extra white is another option.
Painter uses Ben Moore.
We tend to be more contemporary in style or scandi.

We have 10’ and 12’ ceilings. ESE exposure with deep overhang so less light overall. Lights are only on at night. Florida.

You're referring to SW colors and then you say the painter uses BM. If you get a SW color color matched in BM it may or may not look the same. They use different bases so the matches are frequently not exact. If your painter really won't use SW, look at BM Ballet White. It's a tiny bit darker, but the difference might be indistinguishable. White Dove is recommended as the trim color. Have you asked him if he would use SW? We hired a painting contractor recently who preferred SW, but we had our colors chosen in BM. They switched to Ben when we asked. Turns out the SW retailer was closer to where they start their day, but the BM retailer was on the way, so they decided they could make it work. You can also offer to buy the paint yourself.

I pick all my paint colors at one time. Ceiling, wall and trim. I make sure I look at the paint chips in the room I'm going to use them in in a variety of light. Both natural and man made. I always start by painting the ceiling and then the walls and then the trim. When you use a roller or even a paint brush you learn pretty fast about drips and splatter. It's alot like when you clean . You start at the top and work your way down so any dust or dirt doesn't ruin the work you've already done. Same with painting. Start at the top and work your way down.

It is near impossible to suggest a color trusting monitors…but I will give you a color to look at with the off-white trim, as that’s a lot of trim to paint white. Try this color on the wall (two coats). I think you need a color with more brown in the mix: B.M. Silver Fox. Silver Fox is a great backdrop for you gray upholstery (which is probably why the now gray walls are fighting with the furniture.)

I wouldn't add crown molding - it doesn't go with the nice contemporary wood look you have. I'd paint the bookcase (as PPs said) same or a bit lighter than the walls. I wouldn't pain the wood door, fireplace surround/area or window casing (including the long horizontal bar just above the window - not sure if that's also called window casing - regardless I wouldn't paint that either). I think it looks really good as is. (I personally prefer your existing light walls - not the proposed grays or greens. But paint color is totally a personal opinion thing. And I wouldn't feel bad about removing the gigantic bookshelf - not that I don't like it, we'd probably keep it, but just from the small photos it doesn't seem original nor to really match the contemporary look of the original architectural detail. But if it would be functional for you, then by all means keep it. But I would paint it white.)

Now I’m wondering if we could use a soft, pale aqua/turquoise as a neutral wall paint.
In Florida and we still don’t have a rug or our house back together after Ian.
