Do you have rocks in your garden (on purpose)?
Comments (61)Ooohhh, I love all these new rock pics! That glass rock is stunning! And Xuan, your dry garden is really pretty. : ) "Did anyone else notice that there appears to actually be a bear in the second photo of Diane's friend's waterfall? I don't know it that is what it is but it isn't there in the first pic of the same spot. Oh, and by the way, That's a lot of da** rocks! Awesome waterfall". Haha! I forgot about that "bear". It's not real. It's a metal form of a bear. It does look real in the pic, though. If you look at the other pic you can see that it's taken at a slightly different angle, just enough to hide the bear. But these are the San Gabriel Mtns. and we do have bears so I'm sure my friend will be having real fur friends visit this winter. : ) DH and I are digging a pond, which seems to be growing in size everyday (is that a guy thing?), as is the rock pile. We've even found wood attached to some of the rock. Very cool....See MorePlease - What type of Palm is this? How to make it Healthy?
Comments (6)Dearest Hopeful_Grower, Stanofh, and GardenPearl, Thank you.......What a wealth of information in your posts! So much more personalized than anything I found on the Web yesterday. I went to Ho-De this morning and to my surprise, there are several brands of nutrients for Palms. So I asked the guy in the apron that was in charge of the gardening section, which product would be the best for my Palm. He gave me that deer in the headlights stare. His words "Well, I imagine they'd all be about the same considering they all state on the package they are for Palm trees". Do any of you have a favorite brand for fertilizing your Palms? Epsom Salts....the same type I can buy from my local grocery store? If so, how much....a whole box every month or so? Also, in reading the past posts here, I see that many people cover their Palms during the cold weather. I am in Zone 10 but last year and the year before we had very unusual cold nights that got down to 40 degrees....I lost 2 Brugs and a huge, 10 ft. tall by 8 ft. wide split-leaf philodendron (I literally mourned their loss as if they were family!) Would a King-size, flat bed sheet be enough to protect the Palm should we have those cold nights again next winter? Or should I use something heavier? Also; my neighbor's husband is now deceased--he's the one that planted the Palm about 5 years ago. Neighbor is NOT into gardening of any sort so asking her questions about the Palm's history is useless. Would it be safe for the Palm to pull it up and check to make sure her husband planted it correctly, with lots of drainage/rocks/pebbles and maybe I could freshen the soil at the bottom of the container at the same time? Comments (7)well that is the problem. The Icon is nowhere on my desktop.I only have the icons in my docking station and it is not there. So I have nothing to click and drag. I am hoping to do some more searching when I get home, but in the short time I had available before I left for work I couldn't find it. Thanks for the suggestion, however :)...See MoreOak floor stain examples?
Comments (3)We are getting oak floors in our new home. We are debating whether to put some stain in it. Builder recommended natural, with an oil based finish for the red oak flooring. But I haven't been able to find good pics of natural red oak with oil. Does anyone have pics or good links? Thanks....See MoreKathleen Smith
