Popcorn Ceiling Replacement

Lance Lyons
last year

Hi,

I am wanting to replace my popcorn ceiling. I have had one quote that says I need to scrape the popcorn off and then because of the older ceiling and unknowns of that ceiling, it would be better for me to then have new drywall added over the older ceiling and have that finished up and smoothed out with 2-3 coats of joint compound, etc. They are wanting 5500 to do everything but paint. The paint is an additional 3000. Part of the cost for painting is to move the furniture since it would be hard for me to do this with my older 82 year old father in the house. My home is around 1800 sq ft.

does drywall on drywall produce a better ceiling posibility? ( i do have some areas that have some stains today)

thanks in advance

Lance
