Happy St Patricks Day!!!
Comments (14)Tricia, they sell like hot potatoes here, LOL. I think it's just beause it's so easy to top them as you like so everyone finds something they want. You can have just broccoli, or broccoli and cheese or chili or chili and cheese or chili and sour cream or just butter or butter and sour cream, chives if you wish, broccoli and sour cream if that's what you like, well, you get the picture. They just keep steam tables full of toppings and they give you a baked potato, split down the middle, and spoon on your choice of toppings, add a cup of coleslaw, a brownie and you get your own drink. It's fast and easy and everyone just loves it, plus it's a great fundraiser for Commission on Aging. I like broccoli and chili on mine. Odd combination, I know, but I like it. Depending on your region toppings could include a seafood sauce or taco type fillings, whatever is cheap, easy and popular. It's sure a nice break from the pancake breakfasts and spaghetti suppers... Comments (34)I would double check on the egg allergy rules to make sure it really means no baked goods with eggs. Everyone I've ever know who was allergic to eggs was just allergic to them in the flesh but usually not in cooked goods. Even then, I wouldn't think they would be a proximity worry if incorporated and cooked in baked goods. I wonder if the parents actually know the parameters of their child's egg allergy and are misinterpreting what it means. Of course, anything is possible and maybe it's as severe as it sounds. I'm glad someone mentioned cutting grapes and cherry tomatoes. No 2 year old should be given those whole because of the choking hazard. They should still be cut for even older children until their airways are larger and their chewing is more efficient. I think hummus is a great choice and it can be put into sandwiches instead of used as a dip. Same with thinks like tofu - you can make a tasty tofu salad, like tuna salad with well drained tofu. Season it or buy tofu products that are already seasoned. Coconut yogurt might be a good choice...it comes in many flavors. Edamame is healthy and kids love it. I buy the already shelled kind, but my grandson sometimes likes opening the pods and eating the beans. Be careful of things like Lunchables. They are loaded with salt and the smoked meats are not good for anyone to eat with any regularity. Tortillas or flatbread spread with seasoned refried beans, then rolled and cut into pinwheels might work for her. The seed butters are also good choices - sandwiches made with that and some jam or honey are yummy. It's a challenge, that's for sure. Good luck! eta: I see that coconut yogurt is not high protein but has lots of good nutritional elements. Here is a list of high protein vegan yogurts...some have nut milk, but many do not: https://foodsguy.com/high-protein-vegan-yogurt/...See MoreIdeas for ladies who lunch and more; Boston area?
Comments (18)I'm out of date for places to eat, but definite yes to the Gardner. It's beautiful. Newbury st has lots of restaurants though and is fun to stroll....though not as fun as it used to be. It used to be wonderful individual galleries and shops, but now it's more like an outdoor mall with many chain stores. Another museum to see when you get a chance is the Fogg at Harvard. And if you've not seen the glass flowers, they are absolutely amazing...at the Harvard Natural History museum. Yes, this is made of glass!...See MoreOBF - MARCH St Patrick's Day Card & Seed Swap
Comments (95)Congratulations Carol. I still needed 3 words for bingo. I have roses, salvia, wild violets and a few late planted daffodils blooming. Not even any buds on my iris or daylilies yet. I do think I saw some buds on one of my clematis. Thank you for hosting a fun month....See MoreKswl
