want advice: dble oven replace w/: steam? speed? micro combo?
Comments (2)We have a Gaggenau plumbed Combi-steam oven stacked over a Gagg convection oven. This setup provides a lot of versatility & we use one or both of them almost daily. The Gagg Combi is plumbed & can be used as a small convection oven, not just steam, and it can gently warm plates of food without drying them out. Neither of these have a microwave function, so that must be a separate unit. We have a wall Advantium speed cooker that can also function as a microwave. If we didn't want the speed cooker, we'd likely have a countertop microwave in the pantry. Because we entertain large groups, we chose a 36" range rather than a rangetop. Since its oven is so large, we can fit full size sheet pans in it, or we sometimes use it as a warming oven. Because we have several ovens, we did not install a dedicated warming drawer. We had one in our previous home & it was too small....See MoreOptions for replacing 27 inch oven microwave combo?
Comments (2)I replaced an old Tappan 27" double wall oven three years ago with a 30" Kitchen Aid combo unit (model KEMS308). I cut out the excess vertical framework, moved the bottom cabinet rail to adjust for the difference in height and installed a new plywood floor inside the cabinet to seat the new oven. I also had a local cabinet maker build a matching drawer that I was able to install below the ovens due to the lesser height of the Kitchen Aid vs the Tappan. I am pleased with the oven choice. Both the microwave and the standard oven have convection modes and the self cleaning oven feature has worked great....See MoreMiele 27 inch oven versus Thermador (or others).
Comments (3)Ok. Sounds like the only thing the T'dor will get you with 6" more height will be another sheet of cookies or another pie IF......... You purchase another rack/shelf to go with the T'dor because they come standard with the same #. Re: the warming drawer and more space. That 6" isn't going to do much for you at holidays as the temp in the oven is the same, the xtra part can't be used as a warming shelf while you brown the casserol. I'd decide based on which control panel and operating system I liked best, which will require that you go play with each. On the second oven, the Miele wins hands down IF you want to use it like a real oven. It has a rack jsut liek a real oven as well as top and bottom heating elements plus the convestion fan at the rear with its element. The Thermador is just a convection microwave with a small fan and heater tucked up in the upper left side. IT is literally a Panasonic with a Thermador silkscreen on it, so if you want to go that route , save yourself $700 bucks and get it at WalMArt. It also has a junky rack system that you'll have to store somewhere, it's round and doesn't fit typical sheets for baking very well. It's really only good for baking frozen pizzas and heat and serve biscuits that come in their own tray. The miele is a full fledged oven that also has a micro built into it. Its drawbacks are it's $$$ and the control interface can be daunting to use....See MoreOven/microwave/speed oven combos and options
Comments (7)My worry is that if one component breaks, we have to replace the whole thing Why would you have to replace the whole thing? I guess we live in such a throwaway society at this point nobody considers repairing things anymore. However, one component failing earlier is a risk to take into consideration. I went with a KitchenAid convection microwave/wall oven combo and it's worked fine for 8 years, so I can't say I regret the decision. Speed ovens seem finicky to me, and I'm not sure we really need it There are no true speed oven/wall oven combo units. That KitchenAid does not have a speed oven on top, it's just a convection microwave. The closest you'll get is the GE Profile Advantium/wall oven combo, and I'm not a fan of that because the Advantium part is only 120V, which takes longer and gives lesser quality results than the 240V Advantium. I think the best option for you is to get a speed oven or a steam oven with a separate single oven below. That way if one component fails you don't have to replace both. You will need to redo the electrical though....See MoreJAN MOYER
