Need help decorating this huge fireplace

Need decorative ideas for this massive fireplace. My husband is against painting the brick so that is out. We do use this wood stove almost daily in the winter. There is a window on each side but it takes up most of the wall. The rest kf the house is painted white to brighten things up.

Looks like wood storage would be a good thing here, also maybe an area rug that brings all the colors together. Super hard to make deco ideas when we really cant see your style. I would keep it very simple.

Paint the walls the same as the rest of the house.

What’s the long white thing on the mantel? IMO it doesn’t belong there - its vertical pattern is at odds with the brick pattern.

Could you paint the brass trim of the wood stove with heat-proof paint (black)?

I see you've done exactly what I was going to suggest doing when you are struggling with a space. Remove everything and then replace items back one by one, thinking carefully before adding anything back and asking yourself if it adds to your vision for the new space. Sometimes it's hard to envision a space differently or see the problem when all the existing decor is there. Start with the mirror as the foundation and build slowly off of that considering some of the various suggestions of items to add.

How about the shutters, but with wall lamps attached? A tiny whole could be drilled into the shutter where the cord would go, completely invisible. FYI, hard wired wall lamps can be reworked and become plug ins, easy peasy. With the wood ceiling adding a rustic element, shutters would follow that sort of style w/o 'bringing in the barn.' While I like the pictures as well as the shelves, why not think outside the box? You could still have pictures on either side of the shutters, maybe 3 smaller vertical or 2 larger horizontal, depending on how much wall space you want to take up.

I would not put the TV above the fireplace. The fireplace is small and I think the TV will dwarf it. I do think that the mantel should be lowered or maybe removed. It looks way too high, like it was a later add-on by someone without a good eye for proportion and scale. If it makes sense for your TV to be on that side of the room, I don't see a problem putting it to the left of the fireplace. It's hard to judge whether that is optimal without seeing more of the room. Your furniture seems awkwardly placed, especially the sofa. If you post more pictures and ideally a floor plan with dimensions, you will get some good suggestions on furniture layouts. I would think that the sofa would work better floated in the room rather than pushed up against the wall.

That camel color leather furniture isn’t yours? Too bad. It’s lovely. There’s really not much you can do to decorate a fireplace. What were you thinking exactly? Art? Candles? Flowers? This rugged room really doesn’t lend itself to feminine geegaws. Are the trophy mounts coming down?

Thank you for the feedback. I added a couple pictueres for design style (which is limited). I dont like a lot of clutter but certainly want to feel homey.

thank you @littlebug Zone 5 Missouri i will see if I can paint the brass. The entire main floor is white to open things up.

thanks @Jilly. The pictures are a bit fragmented and the golf junk isnt always there (kids are practicing to make the team!). The buffet is in my kitchen to give an idea of the remainder of the house and the foyer just to see what all the doors look like through the house.
