Hallway Design Dilemma

last year

In my last place I had extremely long open halls and had so much fun decorating them. I would love to give this new place a face lift but am not sure how to make an impact with such limited space. An accent wall? Scones? Different light fixture? Carpet squares? My style I would say is organic modern, I like things clean and simple but also homey. Would love any thoughts!

i wouldn’t use a mirror on this wall.

I would do a gallery wall.

I would consider painting the ceiling-height closet doors the wall color, to blend them in or wallpapering the hallway including the tall doors (except for a small white strip at the bottom lined up with the baseboard). It's a little distracting that they are ceiling height but right next to regular sized hinged doors.

I think you need more of a grey green than the color you have. It looks very grey by itself but next to your other wall it will go better.

You'll probably have a hard time with the hinges (and what's wrong with them anyway? They are bits of decorative hardware!). I suspect those cabinet doors have a semi-inset thing going on which is why they look thinner than they are. When they are in good shape like yours appear to be, it's really a more solid and custom feel than modern full overlay, although the style is simpler. (Some of these in more formal areas had applied molding on the door faces, usually thin stuff. Very dainty, and something you could add if you wanted to gussy up the existing doors.) I'd paint the cabinets the trim color (with a good sheen) and continue the wall color on the walls.

Thank you, RedRyder. That is certainly an interesting thought. What I was thinking to take away the totally white look was a colorful shower curtain. I am not a huge fan of patterned tile because I think that no matter what I choose I'll want to change it in a few years and tile is hard to change. I do, though, think patterned tile is perfect for a laundry room and I love yours. Thank you for responding!

I would paint those closets the wall color and get glass knobs. a huge impact would be getting rid of the boob light lol.

Your wall decor should be placed at the intersection of the hallways.

Change our the over head lights to something that provides better lighting for the hallway.

You might look at placing the mirror, or a nice piece of artwork, to the left of the doors. You also might look at painting the doors a different color and changing the knobs. Please see our images here with ideas for you.
