Awkward corner window needs help!

Looking for advice on how to dress an awkward corner window in my NYC apartment. This is my first post to a Houzz forum—please let me know any additional details I can provide!

I just renewed my lease, and decided this is the year I “figure out” this window. Ignore the window film—it’s for privacy since this window looks directly into other apartment windows surrounding a “courtyard” (in name only). Though with the right window treatment ideally I could remove at least one window pane’s privacy film.

The biggest issue is how the window frame meets the wall directly at the corner—there is no wall space to hang a traditional drapery rod above the window, nor for a cornice or valance, etc. As much as I would prefer an outside-mount situation, it seems my only options are inside mount treatments.

Are a cafe rod panel or inside-mount roller shade my only options? Both just sound kind of drab (though given the current state of the window, the only direction is up!). I would appreciate any advice on how to spruce this window up a bit and/or any creative solutions the community might have.

Consider exploring a nice Roman shade there in a nice fabric that compliments your decor.

The downside to roman shades is they're either up or down, there is no middle ground. They are attractive and would really block the view at night. You can get them in light filtering or blackout. If your windows aren't a standard size they can be expensive when custom. While wood slat blinds aren't as popular as they used to be, the wider ones would fit in your window and you can turn the vanes up or down to varying degrees and open them all the way if you want. Look at blinds.com. There are a lot of options.

if the two left hand windows remain operative?double hungs? maybe place the shelves on the far right mostly as a small feature. in the wall areas between windows you can place some directional sconces/ tile/ to continue w a visual focus approach. RE the cabinet above the drawers ? awkward per your scrutiny? do be aware of ways that you can vary a wall cab situation.... UP-lift style cabinets..... open cabinet without doors but matching interior....glass doored cab....reduced depth wall cab...ETC. I could see a great looking stylish faucet w some wall sconces w directional arms in a beautiful metal...then tile on the bit of wall areas and the couple floating shelves to the side. Dont think the wall cabinet on the side would be a focus so much when you look at all the other detail areas in your space.

I remember tie dye. I try to forget it, along with bleeding madras.I'm ALWAYS trying to forget anything that smacks of Mission.............I detest. If you want an outside mount, a one-way, one-sided traverse rod would work.

If you don't like asymmetric curtains, use an inside mounted rod or two cafe rods (tension rods need no holes). Cafe rods give you the option of top or bottom curtains open for light and air.

I like the idea of an outside mount drapery with a left stack. If privacy is required, and you want the window exposed, perhaps a top down/ bottom up shade. But I would embrace the asymmetry and go for the left stac outside mount drapery.

Ditto everything @ptreckel said! You could actually combine the drapery idea with the top down / bottom up shade for the best of all options. Or, outside mount drape over medium size slat blinds. For outside mount drapes, the rod holder at the wall corner is like a shower curtain rod bracket. The same kind of bracket may work on some kinds of shades. Visiting a blinds / window covering store would help you see all the options.

Agree, panel, stacked left. Do a black rod and consider this one, available on etsy.com, with a black border. It is linen with a ticking effect. Hang the rod as high as you can.

Just for another idea, depending on your style and the rest of the room, we have loved our decorative window films to add some color and fun as well as privacy and light filtration.

Get a roller shade with an interesting print to spice up the room. Inside mount installation for sure.
