getting closer to picking out the exterior, looking for help

We are siding our house after adding a garage addition. For the front, we are between the two pictures below (double 4 or shakes). The only issue is that the side of the house with the sun porch has shakes above it that will be slightly different from the ones we install. They are the same company/color but different grain styles. They discontinued what we have (perfection shakes vs sawmill).

I’d re-do the whole house the same. But I think this in the peak really messes up the look of the dutch colonial roof.

thanks for the suggestion. We unfortantely can't swing re-doing the entire house so are hoping for the next best thing. Do you have a preference between the double 4 or shingle style on the front?

Ooo I like the FB tallow quite a bit, a little creamier. But i couldnt really judtify the price, let alone have the patience fir delivery, but Home Depot had a formula for imitating that I will get a sample of. Here is an old picture of the place before we added anything and even finished the siding. As you can see it looks more like a hunting shack than a romantic candlelit cabin, and Very small! It has come along way from here but I've just sealed the knots in the pine so it looks a little silly or I would take new pic.

thanks for the replies! egbar - I was thinking a deep navy color for the shutters and door. I agree the above color is too cool. The gray shutters are a good idea also with a lighter stucco color. i'm going for a more modern look with stainless hardware and lanterns. so maybe yellow is out of the question. nosoccermom - the grout color is gray. a brown gray is a good idea. its just so hard to find the right one! so confused!

Your question and pictures are a bit confusing.

All three pictures seem to show the same house, but the middle picture the colors look different.

As for your question about the front, I'd pick the shakes (but difficult to say for sure without seeing the differences), but what about the side and rear of the garage? And what's up with the wall that emilyam819 circled? Why doesn't the left side match the right? I'd want shakes in that area too.

The middle picture is in real life . the other two are computer generated. i wanted to add board and batten style to it like this picture

I would not add the board and batten. Keep the siding uniform.

The board and batten looks good on your inspiration pic, but your roofline/house style is totally different, and it doesn’t go.

Thanks for the feedback. this all stemmed from a new shingle style- ours is the perfection that we have now and they only make sawmill style in 5inch (shown in top picture) . heres the back

What's on the house now, and does it all match?

The middle picture in your OP clearly shows that it has been altered, B&B on the dormers and shakes on the front.

Why do you want to reside the front and why mention the wall above the sunroom -- is it somehow different the the rest of the house?

Is the problem simply you need additional siding for the garage addition and what is available now does not match what is on the existing house?

Yes - the color is still available but the exact shingle - old verse new style is in the picture above. its close but not exact. we also no longer want the yellow on the front

I mention the side above the sun room because it would have the old shake style- which would not be an exact match to the new style. (shown in the picture above).

we are going to side the garage rear and side based on what we pick for the side of the gambrel in the edited photo (either half shake and half double 4s or full shake)
