Comments (45)Hi Karin & Linda, This looks like a great convention. Karin, because you like photography, you will probably really enjoy this. Doris Browlie is the wife of a hybridizer and Winston Goretsky is the main photographer for the African Violet Magazine Ruth Coulson is an Autrailian author of a book on African Violets that I used to own and give as a gift. I liked her book. Here are a couple of brief write ups -- there is an interview with Winston G. on one of the Annie podcasts. âÂÂPeople love African violets because they are easy to grow and despite the weather outside, we can have flowers all through the year,â says Doris Brownlie of the Toronto African Violet Society. Doris and her husband John run a hobby business, AcaâÂÂs Violet Tree. In fact, John Brownlie, a hybridizer, recently had one of his hybrids, âÂÂAcaâÂÂs Red EmberâÂÂ, make the top 100 list of favourite African violet varieties of the African Violet Society of America. - See more at: http://torontobotanicalgarden.ca/get-gardening/houseplants/all-about-african-violets/#sthash.C1wkMJaP.dpuf Welcome to Episode 22 of All About African Violets! In this episode there is a discussion of pH, and of consistency of care. In addition, there is an interview with Winston Goretsky, Second Vice President of the AVSA and the photographer responsible for so many of the amazing photos you see in every edition ofAfrican Violet Magazine. Comments (5)Beautiful, Melissa! Again, this hasn't been a great year for tomatoes in the North Country. My SIL just pulled out her purchased plants last week. For the 2nd year, they got some weird disease. I kept asking how theirs were doing and they said "fine" (I think there's some kind of specific "tomato pride" that people who garden sometimes have...never admit defeat). I wanted to see how there's were doing, because mine are in containers and I would move them to the front of the house if theirs weren't doing well, just to prevent any disease from transferring to mine. No such luck. My FIL told me they pulled there's up this weekend, and now, plants I had that were doing ok for the past two weeks are fizzling. Of the 6 WSed plants someone was nice enough to give to me,only one is doing well. The volunteer plants are doing good-- they took forever to come up, and they are far behind where they would normally be. I did Summer Sow some Toms to replace the others that never germinated, and those plants are doing very well. They are supposed to be especially bred for containers, and they are ready to go into their homes this week. (I think I need to do a test on those other seeds that I WSed. I've NEVER had a tom seed not germinate for me, no matter when I sowed it). Toms are expensive in the stores and farmers markets up here again this year-- a sign that everyone is having the same trouble. So you might be able to get a decent buck for yours if you get an over-abundance! :-) Linda...See MoreYeah baby, yeah!!
Comments (8)Maternut, most people these days use the term "global warming" to refer to the type of rapid temperature change that has probably only occurred to this degree once in the past billion years or so, right before most of the dinosaurs died out. The term can be used to describe the general cyclical, and much more gradual, change you referred to, but it's not as common. So far as Al goes, I'm not sure how effective he can be. Many people get so emotional about the subject, they refuse to objectively look at what people like Al talk about. I think many of them are afraid to face what could happen. They'd rather pick out some small details that are not 100% accurate or proven and dwell on that instead of looking at the vast amount of solid information that is known about the subject. It's easier to bash Al than face reality. Al may even get a little too excited sometimes, but he's only human. This area's wet winter t-shirt weather may or may not be only caused by some cyclical pattern and may or may not be indirectly linked to "global warming", but it still concerns me. I sure don't want to see another summer drought and would gladly give up these warm winter days for more rain next summer....See MoreYeah ! I can log in again??
Comments (10)In the past lots has been posted about Stack n Whack.....do a search in past posts to read what all was said. That's the idea of having all posts saved - why waste good info when one can revisit it...no need to reinvent the wheel each time...lol Did you contact the technical staff about the problem? Sometimes I have to login before EACH post, and when that happens I email technical about it....they never answer me, but the problem does get 'fixed'.....See More- last year
