need help with kitchen table lighting as well as rest of kitchen
I'm trying to cost-effectively update my kitchen before potentially selling our home. We replaced tile countertops with quartz, put in stainless steel appliances and new sinks with gooseneck faucets. However, for now, we're going to keep the flooring and cabinets as is. I plan to paint the kitchen table/chairs black, get a rug under the table, replace the bar stools, and paint the blue buffet (on the far left) black.
However, the new wagon wheel lighting fixture over the kitchen table doesn't seem right - the lighting over the table is poor, and it just seems to stick out too much in this 'long' kitchen. Suggestions on kitchen table lighting?
Any and all ideas welcomed (lighting or otherwise)! Thank you!

Comments (8)You've done such a rest job already! I've not seen your before pics but you "almost" after pics are beautiful. I love the floor tile, cabs, bs, and the granite. Well done. For the table I would refinish the one you have so that the legs remain painted, and the top is stained walnut, as are the chairs. I can't exactly tell from the pics, but I'm guessing your cabs are white, not cream - is that right? And the backsplash accent tile looks grey/green? It would help if you can give us some idea of what colors you've used elsewhere in the house, but these are all color I would use. I tend toward the cool and light anyway, and you have a great floor to warm things up. All are Ralph Lauren paints. The first color is Muslin, (a taupe) the second, Montauk Driftwood (a pale green), and the third, Tackroom White is a light blue/grey that I think would play beautifully off your bs. Comments (11)I do agree with Olychick though - the kitchen is very traditional so I'm not sure you can get away with something leaning so far modern. I don't think you have to go as foofy/ornate as the previous owners did - but I don't think you can do super sleek either. I think you're going to have to try and find some kind of happy medium. Comments (8)Agreed. 9' x 9' island is crazy-big. I think he was just trying to show me how large of an island is possible - to convey a sense of the space. Who is this “he” person? You’ve mentioned him now two or three times. In any event, whoever he is, he’s not very good at space planning, that’s for sure. Sure a 9 x 9 island is possible—it will technically fit—but it’s way too big for a not-so-big kitchen like yours. I don’t understand the part about putting it there just to convey a sense of space, either. In the interest of you fully realizing your dream home, I strongly urge you to engage the services of an architect, interior designer and kitchen designer, maybe all three, and then come back here for some feedback....See More

I think this copper and black fixture is stunning, might even sell the room. A bit pricey, though. What is your budget for the light?

last yearlast modified: last yearI don’t prefer predominantly black fixtures for this space; imo, it obstructs the line of sight too much. But the lantern option OP mentioned is for sure better than the current wagon wheel fixture.

And, btw, OP - although lighting choices are ultimately a matter of personal preference - fyi, copper works with wood, and copper also works with your wood; it could offer you an updated look. I think the lantern/fixture I show above (in my previous post) is out your budget. But there are actually many light fixtures in the world - and the one I posted earlier was but one option.
And at least I posted a lighting option... seeing as this was supposedly a post requesting options for replacing a light fixture...If anyone thinks that lighting and light fixtures are not important for staging a home for sale - think again.

last yearlast modified: last yearI would actually remove most of your things in this case. With the glass windows and patiodoors on the exterior wall people will be struck by that. I'd leave a couch and end table and thats about it..remove the pictures / small things. Get some potted plants/even fake ones from Michaels... and set near the glorious windows you have . People are quite individual as far as "dining sets" size of table / type of chairs and they can visualize what they have or make their own calculation about that zone. Remove the dining table and chairs.... do you have a nice patio set..make sure that is all cleaned up and arranged to look inviting....you have a wonderful connection between the far end of the space and the exterior it appears.
