Bathroom wallpaper and 'wainscoting"
Comments (2)Pictures of the situation will help. Some wallpaper can be wallpapered over, but some can't really (at least by a novice.) Some wainscoting material is thin enough to apply actual real wood tongue and groove over. Some is not. It's always best to remove everything first and start over though. That includes the wallpaper and the wainscoting. What tools do you own? A 4' level? A large metal square? A utility knife? A drywall blade? Measuring tape? A plumb bob? You'll need all of those for the wallpaper job, and a few other specialty tools depending on what type of paper you choose. For wainscotting, you'll need a measuring tape, stud finder, level, square, chop saw or circular saw. Some clamps and extra boards for a straight edge. Hammer and nails and nail punch or a nail gun and air compressor. Caulk gun and tube of construction adhesive and one of paintable caulk. And all the stuff to prime and paint it when you are done....See Morewallpaper removed this week - yippee!!
Comments (6)We sort of did the same thing the last two years. Putting 3 kids through college, we didn't do much with the house for a number of years. It started with a kitchen reno...then DS announced his engagement and we jumped into gear to redo the rest of the main level knowing lots of friends and family would be coming. The wedding was last April...and I still need to do some accessorizing...so hard to pick things. We are nearing retirement and will sell in a few years and I felt the same way...I wanted to enjoy the house and not just fix it up to sell. Have fun....it will be such a sense of accomplishment when it's done and you will love it every time you walk through the door. Post pics when you finish!...See MoreGuest Bathroom Wallpaper
Comments (1)If your ceilings are concrete, wallpaper may be a challenge if it is a full bath. Concrete is porous and steam is water, the combination can cause the wallpaper glue to fail, even if you have an exhaust fan (is that the exhaust fan half covered by the mirror frame?) For less potential issues and still beautiful options, I would recommend a painted treatment. Either just a solid color to pick up on neutral in marble or a faux treatment. Examples might be a solid background with a roller-stamp design on top of a deeper or lighter tone. If the marble is neutral warm beiges you could do a gold leaf finish or if it is more cool grays you could do silver leaf finish. Just be creative and go with what works with your design esthetic....See MoreRetexturing walls after wall paper removal
Comments (5)If the wallpaper was put on textured walls, then once you remove all the wallpaper and all the glue (its water soluble), and clean the walls very well, you should only need to prime it with gardz and then repaint it. No, you should not have to skim coat it....See MoreNorwood Architects
