Use mosaic tile on floor of commode room?

We're renovating our MBa and plan to use a mosaic tile for the new shower floor. Each mosaic tile is 12"x12" with individual tiles about 2"x2", matte porcelain. We love this tile and got a great deal on it and have a lot more than we need for the shower, including the floor, a niche in the wall, and the vertical walls on a built-in bench. The MBa has a separate commode room, and we're considering using this same mosaic tile for the floor in there, but we're not sure if that would look weird or not and would appreciate any thoughts anyone may have.

Yes, you absolutely can use mosaic tile on the floor, as long as it's rated for flooring. We did just that in this master bath with a curbless shower.

And yes, keep all the floor tile the same throughout, including the WC.

Sabrina Alfin Interiors (Hope this reply gets to you): Unfortunately, we don't have enough of the mosaic to do the main floor area in the bathroom; we bought all the store had on clearance. We think the 12X24 tile we're using for the main floor looks good adjacent to the shower floor and so are thinking it would also look good adjacent to the commode room floor. (By the way, the commode room will be about 23 sq ft with probably a pocket door.) So our choices are to use the mosaic in the commode room, along with the shower floor; or just run the main floor tile on into the commode room. (We'll also be running that main floor tile into our closet, which will have a wider, cased opening instead of the door currently there.) My wife simply loves the mosaic and is looking for other ways to use it without making the final design look odd. Thanks for any additional comments you can provide.

Check with Habitat for Humanity. They have Restore stores in many cities. We have a great one here in Colorado Springs. I have built so many projects from donated building project rejects. I even built a kitchen island from cabinets and countertop purchased there for less than $160. All were new from contractors who didn't need them for jobs. Also, donate your excess or unwanted building supplies. I had them pick up a great workshop counter that had been cutting my kitchen in half before the island! Our Restore has a huge supply of leftover tiles for sale cheap.

I am going thru the same thing w our master bath. I was shown porcelain that resembled stone and was I think 17/sq fit. Stone/Marble seems to run around 25 as you mentioned, my contractor is a good friend and can get me a discount at the 2 tile places my wife and I visited. Fisher Tile in Hawthorne,NJ I didn't visit but my wife did as this is who my friend suggested. She said large selection but prices not great. She and I went to Standard Tile in Jersey City and the lady was very nice and helpful and the prices were better and 3.5% sales tax. Our friends used Standard and were happy. We may use one or the other or both. The porcelain she showed me resembled slate/stone and we liked it.

Is it an actual flat and level surface but pitched lower on one side or a dip? We had installed a rather expensive imported Italian tile in our dining room and the floor did slope a bit, but there were no dips. The installers still did a subfloor. But we invested more in the tile in this one room than all the flooring we had put down on the rest of the entire first story. Didn't want to be penny wise but pound foolish. Here's the thing about dips and spongy areas. They occur for a reason. Although the tile may accommodate the curve of the dip, whatever caused the depression in the first place is likely an on-going process. In the last two years, in our old, old house we had to tear out the floor in two rooms (yes, one of them was the tile floor and none of it was salvageable) to repair two hundred year old logs used as the floor joists and beams. We tore it out clean down to the dirt in the cellar. Nasty job. The slope on the floor should have told us something was going on.

Has anyone used glass mosaic tile from The Tile Shop?

I haven't used glass mosaic tile from The Tile Shop, but I did buy porcelain tile (that is supposed to look like marble) from them and didn't have any issues. I mixed in and ordered my glass mosaic tile from Overstock... No issues and looks great after a year and a half. I'm sure you'll be fine buying from The Tile Shop. Oh, and my shower floor and bathroom floor came from Lowes and no issues there either... But I wouldn't hesitate to buy from The Tile Shop.. Not unless you can find something similar for less. Believe me, I saw lots of glass tile that I loved at The Tile Shop, but couldn't fork over $25 a sq foot, so I found what I needed on Overstock for about $10-$12. Good Luck

Do you know the manufacturer and model number of the tile? If so, you might be able to buy more from a different supplier. Even if you have to pay full price for it, the additional tile you need to cover the floor won't be a lot of square footage, so it would not be a huge expense.

I would suggest you go with the fewest grout lines in a room with a toilet. More grout will mean more maintenance due to stray male urine...

So.......you have left over mosaic: ) No big whoo.

Don't put it in the potty closet. Just don't.

You already got "a great deal" - don't look a gift horse in the mouth and complicate the bath or your transitions or your cleaning life.

( if still obsessed with using it up? Make a vertical accent behind the potty.....not less than two feet wide and floor to ceiling. Float a couple shelves in, in it, white to match white potty Other than that? Toss it )
