house exterior help--shutters? paint the brick?
Comments (16)Thanks for the extra pictures -- especially the photo of the brick itself -- very helpful!!! :) So ...... perhaps consider a medium tone of gray that would work with the dark gray roof AND the tones in the brick AND the dark gray tones in the driveway ...... For the door itself -- consider a whiter tone that will bring it into prominence in the façade ..... The color of the trees really does help to emphasize the pinky-red tones in the brick and the driveway .... BUT ... rather than lose the trees -- do consider having those trees WELL trimmed and thinned so that the color is more balanced in your landscaping .... Comments (5)I'm not a professional so take the ideas for what they're worth. :) Looks like your windows are framed in white? How about painting the window trim white (it might make the windows look larger). Carry the white trim wherever you have the dark blue trim. The light blue siding would look pretty in a light to medium gray (and wouldn't clash with the roof). The door could be painted a pretty pop of color. I'm a big fan of red doors. It doesn't have to be fire engine red. Looks like you have a plant near the door with reddish blooms. Perhaps a wine red door? Hope these ideas get the ball rolling for you. Good luck! I'm experiencing a similar problem with my shutters. Wish I had a photo I'd share with you to get your ideas!...See MoreNeed help with paint scheme for shutters and trim
Comments (3)To me, your home is going for the cottage look if you decide to have shutters. It appears like you have enough room for the right size shutters (to look functional), but they would need to be much wider than what you have right now. Take a look at this example below: The shutters need to cover the window entirely - even if they aren't functional. See this very brief article about sizing shutters: https://www.lifeofanarchitect.com/residential-architecture-101-shutters/ Your front door would look terrific in a Coral /burnt orange in my opinion. If you do go in this direction an deep olive green (like below) for your shutters would work well. I agree that the landscaping needs to be changed. Post on the landscaping sub-forum here for ideas. I would also add a wide walkway and expand the width of your steps to make it much more welcoming....See MoreExterior paint schemes for the house I used to live in
Comments (21)Hi Beth - Me too! But I realized that the roof is in brown tones so I sort of backed away from the true grays. Was hoping to give it a really new fresh look after so many years of neglect. Katinparadise - I too love, love the idea of a black door! I’m not sure he would go for it. Thought maybe the naval would be a close second but I do agree with you. A lighter white trim , Fawn Beige and your choice of Black. I think the shutters should come off but I don’t know it he will agree. But if he doesn’t maybe the black as well?...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
