Thanks for trying to help me. I honestly don't know what kind of soft close hardware or glides I have. The cabs are Thomasville. On the drawers that have soft close on them, when I pull out the drawer, the rails stay inside the cabinet box. If I want to remove a drawer, there are little clips under the drawer that I have to click in order to remove it. Like this: (pic from Thomasville's website, it was easier) "> On the wide deep dish drawers, they don't have soft close. When I pull the drawer out, the rails stay with the drawers. I bent over to look to see if there was a name on them, but there isn't. They are full extension, as are all of our drawers. The Hafele has a bungee cord and the location that bungee cord is attached to on the railing is where the drawer opens to. Assuming you have the kind of cans that hang from a railing. My bungee is attached to the front of the floor of the cabinet on one end, and to just a bit beyond the front of the back trash can on the the other. So when I hit the pedal, it comes open to expose the entire front (trash) can and just a little bit of the back (recycle) bin. That's the way I set it up because that's how I wanted it. But I could have attached the second end of the bungee to the very back of the railing in order to have both cans exposed when I stepped on the pedal. The pedal and bungee operate independently so if you already have a pedal installed, just go get yourself a bungee and attach it and you should be good to go. You just need some kind of hook to install in the floor of the cab, and the railing needs a hole at the spot you want the bungee attached. I used a regular old drill to drill a hole in my metal railing for that purpose.

I just came across this thread as I am now planning a kitchen with Servodrive on all drawers. I have been using the servodrive on garbage drawers for three years now and would not go without it. The unit another posted that is at IKEA is actually the BLUM item simply branded as "Utrusta" for IKEA. For my install it cost much less. Very simple to install if you have access to a power outlet. An interesting aspect of the Servo Drive is that it gives it's kick whenever the position of the drawer is disturbed, normally by pushing with your knee, but, it also reacts to a slight pull so it will act as an assist. Very nice in the case of a heavy drawer. I went with the BLUM TIP-ON system for another kitchen recently and have been very disappointed. The mechanism is a wonder of engineeriing and design but alas the way it works is annoying. With both the Servo Drive and the Tip-On, make no mistake, you will experience unintentional openings. The difference is that with the Tip-On the drawer must be "thown" closed with just the right force to overcome the spring and reload the mechanism. The Servo Drive closes just like a normal self closing drawer, much less annoying. I have two trash drawers, the cullery drawer and the plate drawer on Servo Drive. You can't imagine how often I find myself standing in front of one of the other drawers pushing it and wondering why it isn't opening. After a few tries I figure it out but have forgotten what I was looking for. Seriously though, don't even consider a mix of Servo and Tip-On unless you want to end up in the looney bin and as for our Miele dishwasher that you must "knock" to open, that's another bit of madness. In closing, Servo Drive is an absolute pleasure for the trash drawer. You probably have power right beside it under the sink. Get it at IKEA

sjhockeyfan, is this an an apartment that you own like a Co-op or Condo? I live in a two floor townhouse with a garage but we have several one floor condo's in my small development that have no garages. I have a client that lives in a co-op that was once apartments converted over and now that he owns the unit, he did renovate his small kitchen with cabinets to the ceiling and it looks so nice and updated. Only the Condo people with no garages get to use the dumpsters in the shed. I have to keep my trash in my garage or in the backyard fenced in area. That is the only thing I liked about renting in my last place was that I threw out the trash twice a day and only needed a small trash can. I also threw out recyclables often but now I have to wait once a week so I have a recyclable can. But I prefer to own then rent as I like making the place my own and I like having more space with a big washer and dryer.
