What can I do for oiled hardwood floors cleaned with wrong cleaner?

Sara Doran
last year

We just bought a house with Provenza Oak hardwood floors that look to have an oiled finish. I love the matte look, but they are heavily soiled in high traffic areas and look a bit dried out everywhere.

The previous owners left us their Bona floor cleaner, but it is for polyurethane finished wood, not oil finished wood. I’m guessing that’s what has caused the excessive wear.

Should I just use the new cleaning products I bought that are specific for oiled hardwood floors (Provenza cleaner for oiled floors, spot treatment, rejuvenation oil) and it will improve over time, or is there some ”rescue” step I should do first?
