What kind of door handles do I need/want for French doors?
Comments (8)Thank you all for your help! You're correct that the doors are fiberglass. I called our salesman at Ganahl this morning and he said we can't do multipoint locks on these doors and there was some other option that we would have had to select at the time of purchase but can't be added now. Wish I had researched this better and/or asked better questions at the time we ordered the doors, since they are now non-returnable. Hopefully it works out. I bought the keyed door lever and deadbolt (single cylinder - see below) for the active door and two dummy door handles for the passive door. Re double cylinder, the Ganahl salesman said the downside of that, aside from inconvenience, is that in the event of a fire or other emergency, it slows down your ability to exit the house quickly. If someone is determined to break into the house, the double cylinder may create an extra step but they'll find another way in. And P.S. I do live in a warm and safe area, although it's an El Niño year, so good luck to us and our new doors! Thank you all again!!...See MoreStained or White Interior Doors...and do they need to match?
Comments (9)Closet door are not a "feature" Stained doors, or ANY door "important" enough to differ from the trim casing around it? should lead to something equally important; Like a great dining room, or a wonderful study, perhaps a fabulous master bedroom: Not a closet,....a laundry, etc. ABRUPT color and stain changes, can cut up a house in a heartbeat. Or enhance something deserving. The word is restraint. : ) unless a more historic situation and home....See Morematching interior/exterior doors
Comments (8)A powder room does not benefit from any barn door no matter the style of the door. Interior doors? Should match. An entry door is chosen to suit the exterior of the home. ..........and if the inside of that home will have a design intent somewhat unsuited, or wildly unexpected? Simple is best. The wood mission posted, has nothing in common with the entry door you posted, other than it IS a door. Design is editing. Don't "isolate" just to be different. Harmony is the good friend of unity. Too, there is nothing particularly "modern" about a mission/craftsman door. In OR out. I think you are a bit too much ......all over the place ......versus honed in on a feel and style for either interior or exterior....See MoreShould my interior door hinge & door knob metal match my faucet metal?
Comments (6)Personally I prefer polished chrome and polished nickel, but I have traditional tastes. Satin finishes are more modern or contemporary, so it depends on your style. If possible, it's preferred that the finishes in a room coordinate even if they don't match exactly. For example, you can mix finishes, but I'd keep them to two if possible. If you're building a home from the ground up, and have the option of matching the hardware to the fittings, then that probably is the best route. So either all satin nickel, satin chrome, polished nickel or polished chrome. If it's too late to do that then I'd try to at least match the finishes if you can't match the metals. Hope that helps....See Morecpartist
