4 or 5 sections work - depends on how much seating you need. I would get a lerger TV. I would pull the rug closer to the FP so the back of the sectional is on the floor. I would hang a large piece of art on each side of the doors. In 1 picture they look like wood in the next thay look like glass??

The rug is too far under the furniture. Pull it out about 3’, nearly touching the fireplace.

Are you considering adding a coffee table? Side tables? Lamps?

Jck910, Thanks for your comments. To clarify for you, there are 2 sets of doors . There are the 2 wooden ones on the wall I am asking about (the long side of the room) and then at the end of the room on the wall that runs perpendicular to that one, there is another set of etched glass doors, (the short side of the room). For the artwork, would you suggeset something vertical or something horizontal?

I see what @jck910 means about in one pic doors behind couch are glass & in other look wood. It’s as though the couch was flipped. I do agree the rug should be pulled out from under couch & the outside edge be moved closer to fireplace. Regardless of all that, your question was about art on the wall behind couch - I wouldn’t worry about adding a round shape specifically to not have more corners. The wall space on right of two doors & closest to windows is long & can use very a large art piece. I’d want that instead of many smaller pieces to fill up the space. I think a large piece of art would be the right scale for the size of room & the large pieces in it - the sectional & floor to ceiling FP. Smaller complementary pieces of art would look good on the smaller wall to left of doors. As for leaving a piece of sectional out for space to add a chair, table & lamp - you’d need all 3 items not just a chair - I’m not sure about that. What would you do with the piece of sectional? Looks like there’s enough room to add a chair in opposite corner the tree was in - over by FP & angled towards sectional.

KW - I appreciate your suggestions. I think I see where I caused the confusion about the glass/wood doors. The first pic shows them closed. The next pic, 1a, shows them open and now I can see why you say they look like glass when they are open. In addition, I took pics from both ends of the room, 2 different angles, so you could see everything and that is why it looks flipped

For the time being, I put the piece of the sectional that I took out, in the room that is behind the etched glass doors, and it could stay they if need be, althougth not ideal. I can't put it in the space you are suggesting because it would block the cabinet doors, (see the 2nd to the last pic), but It might fit in the corner where the tree is, angled as you suggested.

I see your point about the scale of the room and the balancing with a large piece of art. Thank you. I also have to balance the wall to the left of the fireplace with the faucet, against the other side with the TV. More artwork to buy :-) .

@HU-467821532 Oh yes - I see now about the doors being open! Thanks for clarification. Maybe the big sectional is all the seating needed in that room. Once tables are added it all looks filled and balanced. How about open shelving on side with sink? What else is in the cabs there? Mini frig etc? The shelving could have small art sitting on shelves as well as decorative items related to beer / coffee / movies etc. Do you want art on FP Mantle too? You have room for larger TV when time comes for new TV.

KW, Inside the cabinets to the left of the FP, there is the mini frig, a shelf that swings out and lifts up to counter top level with a coffee maker on it, and in the drawers are coffee suppies, paper plates, plastic ware, etc. There is also a toaster. There are 3 bedrooms on this level so the idea was to provide a family room to hangout with the basics so they don't have to go upstairs to the kitchen for them, but I didn't want to see the clutter on the countertop.

I think a vertical piece of artwork on the mantel would add to the space.

I would definitely do two large pieces (hopefully matching sizes) on the wall behind the sectional. And then I would look for an art piece over the bar sink that's approximately the size of the TV.

Since you mentioned that your style is mountain modern, I'd look for at least some of the art to bring in the outdoors/mountains. Additionally, I think it would help to bring in some wood through side tables or a coffee table.

Your idea for something wavy to counteract all the linear is a good one. It occured to me that you could visualize wavy lines as a pattern for a gallery wall. Since you have a large family you must have many favorite photographs that would add a lot of personality and interest to the room. There is no need to limit it to photographs. I’d mix it up with artworks, too, and perhaps some unframed momentos. Over time, as you add pieces, the imaginary wavy lines may disappear but it will be a soulful surrounding that people are drawn to.

I take the point about the TV. It's not the ideal location, but at least it does pull out and swivel so people at the far end can see it and they don't get cricks in their necks from looking up at a big TV that is too close.

Love your big beautiful sectional! I tried to figure this out from the thread, but when using the 2 doors, do you need to be able to walk both directions behind the sectional? If you can make do with walking only one direction, especially away from the window area, I would look for a not too deep tall piece of furniture to go to the right of the doors behind the sectional (assuming that there's not a lot of space for walking back there). A large bookcase or similar, pretty massive, to make art placement easier. You could then add a large statement piece of art to the left of the 2 doors and it would be non-symmetrical, yet balanced.
I would also revise the pillow arrangement so they are not like a bunch of little soldiers all lined up on the sectional. I think you could use some interesting prints, different shapes/sizes, some texture, and many fewer pillows.

Olychick, Thanks for the kind words and your ideas. To answer your question, it is better if people can walk both ways as they come out the doors. To the right is the path to the stairs. To the left is the shortest path to the frig, sink, coffee, and the patio. If I had to go all the way around to the right to get to the frig, etc, I would be frustrated. I take your suggestion on the pillows :-)
