Farmhouse living room on a budget
Comments (41)Gang, tell me if I'm being fair about this. I've been looking through some of these Modern Farmhouse photos, and one thing I'll say about them is that they all seem to be lightened up like crazy. Take a relatively light-colored room, remove anything with color, position an extremely bright light behind a window covered with some kind of gauzy curtain, blow up the exposure, and "click!" Modern Farmhouse! Don't get me wrong--I love the look, but I think a lot of these rooms are heavily staged, and without a ton of light will look much duller and more ordinary in person. So Kent Warren, if you're thinking "Gawd, why can't I achieve this glorious look," it might be that nobody can achieve it unless they have a film crew standing by. I definitely think you should keep going, but be careful to go a bit more by how you feel about the space, and a bit less by how it compares to curated photos. That's not true for every style, but I think for this Modern Farmhouse style, feel might be just as important as look....See MoreHelp! How to decorate Farmhouse/French Living Room!
Comments (19)the room is cute but it needs some life and color. Bring in some plants and art. it's hard to photoshop this angle, but I threw in some color, some texture w/the darker woven wood blinds, some greenery, a basket w/some colorful pillows, and please replace those beige sofa pillows for something w/color! down in the corner I have a color group of 4. try velvet, some cotton, whatever. as long as the colors all match, you can do diff patterns even something like these would work instead of the art between the windows, try some soft, light panels. look at the double window. it's kind of like your set up. see how they did the panel on the sides and one in the middle?? I would raise the blind up a little higher than what's shown here w/yours. but this would for sure make your one wall look put together. this is the worst photoshop ever, but see if you can imagine it but I really would look into diff window blinds. something like this offers a contrast. notice the pillows, a throw and the plant behind that sofa you really need some art. or you can do a long wood shelf like this, and stage it w/many prints. but notice that they all resemble each other. size, color, frames, simple subject matter, etc. you can do some white drapes like shown, and the bamboo blinds. love the tree in the basket. I want you do imagine if you removed every single accent item in this room. it would look like yours! you i gave you a diff style side table since everything in this room is bulky, or heavy wood. you need some delicate items to balance it out. style your mantle w/things like this...See MoreI need ideas for this room. Comments (13)Pleasant looking room. Liking all the natural light potential. You might consider wood or faux wood vertical blinds for the window wall. Would add more wood vibe to the room and offer more options for light and privacy control . https://www.blindster.com/vertical-blinds/faux-wood-vertical-blinds/ Plants give a farmhouse vibe. You'd have more room for plants if your loveseat were not backed up to the window -- not just plant shelf/stand sitting on the floor but brackets with hanging baskets of the plants you really like that will get enough sunlight from your windows. Having your loveseats facing one another set at each long end of the rug with only a table and lamp between the one side and the exterior wall would be worth trying ... setting the front feet of the loveseats on the edge of the rug. If you draw, to scale, on graph paper the size/shape of the room with all its fixed features (windows, doors, fireplace, etc.) indicated, you can draw and cut out the size/shape of the furnishings you have and and see what works without moving the actual furniture. Taller thinner wood or metal post table lamps with medium/large white shades could help lighten the room ... and have a less formal vibe than the ones you are now using. An "industrial" style could work....See Morehow do I make these chairs look less farmhouse and more grand mill?
Comments (52)Hi LS I received a message from another user to come to your thread and see if I could offer some assistance. I have not read through each of the comments due to a limited amount of time to do so on my part, However I did get to your photo of the navy chairs around a white table. So thus far my question is this. Grand Millineal is not the style of that inspiration photo you shared. That is a modern farmhouse style. SO before movimng on which one are you trying to achieve? With your existing chairs the only type of paint that may bring them closer to the Grand mIllineal look is to have them lacquered professionally, the seat bottom upholstered and adding a great fabric inspired pillow with a great flat trim to the back. If you were to do that it would get you closer but still would have a distinictive country vibe due to the X back on the chair. Also if you were to do all those things you would be spending more on your existing chairs than you would if you were to source new chairs. GM doesnt limit itself to a Chinese Chippendale chair and bamboo. That style would be difficult to pick up for a song currently due to its popularity but others would not. Also which form of GM are you inspired by? Coastal GM? Grandma GM? Tradiational GM? all things to consider. If your heart is set on the Chinese Chippendale style chair I would try to get to a Ballard Design outlet center on a weekend. They always have them on the floor there and usually run 50% off during the weekends. You won't get 4-6 of the same color but you will get them for a great price and then can paint them. Also these on Birch Lane are some of the least expensive versions out there https://www.birchlane.com/Birch-Lane™--Janae-Cross-Back-Side-Chair-X111659226-L168-K~B000285454.html?refid=GX433453121207-B000285454_593188138&device=c&ptid=1068218427322&network=g&ireid=209925791&targetid=aud-1644963994469:pla-1068218427322&PiID%5B%5D=593188138&gclid=Cj0KCQjwzqSWBhDPARIsAK38LY_C01HsFU3gcl5eWuzHF85BMfaDevC_zQsUsxIxk44zMv6nyasmWN8aAs3vEALw_wcB&piid=584891105 Best of luck!...See MoreMel W
