Backsplash till cabinet crown molding or all the way up to ceiling

Hello, I am in a dilemma, trying to decide whether to take my kitchen backsplash just below the cabinet crown molding or to let it go all the way up to the ceiling (8ft). Please see pics below, any suggestions?

I'd go up one more row and no more. Do you have a way to finish the edge? If there's a bullnose available, I'd add that and be done. Looks good!

I believe the problem is the cabinets that flank the sink don't go to the ceiling because there's no crown molding on those cabinets, correct? The only photo I have is of a chimney hood where they floated the tile to the ceiling. It's not a look I'd recommend. I'd either order the crown molding or bring the backsplash partially up the window.

I have seen before in these forums that contractors sometimes don't scribe the counter to the wall (meaning, they allow gaps between the counter and wall in some places), because they assume a thick backsplash will cover the gap. I know that it's not the counter you are asking about, but I would really want the contractor to assure me that the wall panels will look great against the wall..... even if there is no backsplash. That is an interesting thought. That is going to be a coffee/smoothie bar sort of area with the Espresso Machine and where we use the Blender for (usually daily) smoothies, so we thought it might be good to backslash that. Plus with the matching shelves our initial thought was it would go along with the sink wall which is supposed to be a focal point. The 3rd wall in the kitchen is the stove wall, which will have backsplash under the Uppers (no interface with crown on that wall). The 4th wall has no cabinets or anything, just 2 doors and the seated side of the island, so that is all paint up to the crown. Would it look out of place to have the backsplash completely over sink wall, covering all exposed space on Rangetop wall, and then nothing on the bar wall? Trying to conceptualize it as it is intriguing, because we do really love the Pale Oak color we ended up going with

No, the backsplash has a cool tone compared with the warm colors in the laminate counters. I would not invest in any type of backsplash, until I saved up enough to replace the counters. Maybe an inexpensive peel and stick backsplash to get by in the meantime (it looks like that's what's there now). I also would not put crown molding on the cabinets. It's an expense that wouldn't really add any value to the current kitchen. Just money spent.

@fori I do have bullnose tiles, but dont know how to use it. Do you put it on vertically or horizontally at the ends? I saw that the long part of the tile has a finished rounded feel, wasnt sure how to use it. Couldnt find any videos for kitchen backsplash, most were for showers.

@kandrewspa that is true, however since we have a lot of space on either side of the range hood, seemed liked a good idea to add backsplash. Right now it looked too plain on the sides, just paint.

Is it the same size and shape as the field tile with a rounded long side? Then I'd just use a row on the top, just like the filed tile, but with the rounded edge on top. The sides are trickier.

@fori yes it is the same size, shape and design (same matching tile, just bullnose). Ok I get it, thanks a lot, yes it does have a rounded long side. I will add it as the final tile on top. I was thinking for the sides perspective, so was getting confused. Anyway this helps a lot :)

I would take it to the ceiling above range hood AND cabinets and use a Schluter edging material not bullnose tile
