Kitchen Backsplash - Herringbone? Need Help!!!
Comments (9)bmore always has good ideas. Here are a couple more. First questions - how out-of-level are those windows? Are they new-installs? Can you post an image? First of all if a window is not level and plumb, it's not going to open properly. You know it should be fixed and you really should do this before you install tile. But if you're dealing with a 100+ year old house and windows that have been there forever, and you don't want to touch them I get it. Can you level out the window trim a little so that it appears less out-of-level with the counter without looking too tilted to the window? If so, any option you pick will look better. Herringbone, that I love by the way, may be fine but it is a very linear look again. It may not be great in your space. My guess is that avoiding lines altogether is the way to go, so pick marble, but consider a mosaic that uses rounds or octagons, and yes, if you can take it to the ceiling that would be great. I know this will be a departure from the look you wanted. I love this tile, and at least one GWer has used it. It'll give you an idea of what I mean. mpagmom's bs: You don't have to use color, but if you can get away from straight lines, you'll be happy you did....See MoreBacksplash in - Weird part around window
Comments (13)Looks like a consensus then... I'll take out the top 5 tiles. The 6th tile down is coped around the bottom edge of the cabinet so I'll keep that one in. Natesgramma - The paint around the top portion of the window is the same paint as the rest of the kitchen. A white crown molding will go all around, including above the window area. I wasn't planning on doing a window treatment as I like that particular window bare. Yes, I love Anita's backsplash. At first I think the tiles should be the same height as the ones under the range hood, and noticed Anita's window and range hood are on two different walls. BUT I think mine will look fine if they're not level. If anything, I think it makes the area under the range hood more of a focal point. Thanks all, I needed a confirmation that it wasn't just me. DH isn't convinced but I'll show him this post. How long can we wait before we pry off the tiles, I wonder?...See MoreBacksplash dilemma
Comments (15)You can also tile to the bottom of the shelf. And please do not tile the side walls. How are you treating the window? It looks more contemporary than traditional and subway tile inside the frame is very traditional. If you tile to the ceiling, you might consider extending the sill and adding a simple, traditional window molding. If you're going for a transitional look and not framing the window, I'd think about using a longer subway size like a 3 x 8". I like this 3 x 12' with your Fantasy Brown because it mimics the flowing movement instead of stopping the eye every 6"....See MoreIt’s finally backsplash time!
Comments (1097)Flo, that's the Nabi Jewel. I have a sample of it. Pink, I also have a sample of the blue macaubas and white marble in the basketweave. (Esplanade Winter Lake? ) diff color, but this is how the layout looks it's gorgeous. I have a sample in the black and white option, and the Linen one,,far left. you can see the Nabi Jewel 2nd from right they only give you two little bars for a sample. Order one full sheet if you really want to see how the tile will look. that's what I did w/their black/white , Cindersmoke, or the Black Beauty. the other blue/white is pretty. But they are both expensive, sign up for their trade program. you get a nice discount. they have this design too. this is no cheap date tho. that's why I mentioned the trade discount Nabi Argyle. comes in diff colors do you like this kind of tile layout pink, have you also looked at encore ceramics? they have some beautiful blue glazes, all sorts of shapes/sizes, and you can blend colors. look at Rain in the chevron. man it's pretty or imagine this, but in these diff blue crackles, or mixed w/the marble. they can do 3 or 4 colors Lapis and Azul wave ignore the shape, but look at the color blends. so pretty peacock and light azul in the flame wave or these color blends. (they literally have 100 diff shapes and sizes) larger chevron in Ocean gradient blend...See MoreP L
