I think as long as you see the two color stains and they compliment each other either of your choices are good. In my last kit my one regret was the color of the cabs was the same as the floor. I really wish I had selected a color of contrast. This kit I have painted cabs and wood floor.

I don't think you made a mistake. I think it might look great. What color are your floors? What is your design style? Midmod? Industrial? Country? Contemp? Here are some pretty galley kitchens on Houzz. Which do you prefer dark or light counters? I like the light countertops. The Iook at this above kitchen with the Virginia Jet Mist granite honed and I think wow black is really pretty too... Good luck with choosing. SO many beautiful spaces to create.

I do like the cerused look myself and its really what I initially had in mind as my stain. Its not a finish everyone offers, is likely to be an upcharge if it is offered, and is going to look best on a rift or quartersawn white oak which isn't cheap wood to start with. I'm happy with how mine turned out and everyone who sees it seems to like it. It's driftwood on maple with an black glaze. Without the black glaze, the pink of the wood showed through and was too much. It's definitely grey, but it has an underlying brown and slightly pink tone so its warm and not GREY. I think it fairly different/unique/unexpected. Would probably have been a bit much for the entire kitchen though, I'd be careful of using grey flooring though, it's such a huge surface can be overwhelming.

Ok...so you are trying to pick a cabinet colour that 'works' with a grey floor that has NOT be chosen yet? Hmm. That will be tough. What you will need to do is pick ONE and then go find a compliment to it. Trying to pick one from something that does not yet exist is SUPER tough. Who is the designer for your new build? Do you have one? Is it part of the builder's repertoire? Or do you have to do all the design-picks yourself? I live in Vancouver BC...and gray floors with some gray cabinets with gray days = TOO MUCH GRAY! If you want to keep things light for those gray days (Seattle has more gray days than Vancouver...and Vancouver is 'Garbage can gray from December to May') you will want to work with COLOUR. Something with some 'sunlight' gold would do well. A light floor does NOT have to be white or light gray. It can be natural wood tones (not the yellow/orange of oil based finish...but a soft butter colour). When the sun is NOT shining (which is more than 60% of the time in the PNW) the FLOOR can be your sunlight. If it is natural oak or maple, the yellow of the wood will reflect UP into the room. It can be the warm gold tones of the sun while the sun is hiding behind all those rain clouds. I've seen people in our climate work with gray. They HATE it. They are desperate for some 'cheerful' colour. And cheerful means 'sunlight gold'. Transitional often comes with some natural wood tones used in some form. White cabinets with wood counter tops. Or wood cabinets with white counters (and stone floors) or white cabinets, natural wood floors and your choice of cabinets. Personally I like blue...but that might be too much for you.
