Ooh, I love that first sconce Jilly just posted. Not crazy about the pleated shade (dust traps) but I love the shape of the base. Not crazy about the sconces with the long vertical piece below the lamp.

I think sconces placed as you have them are for ambient light, not task lighting, so I would not have adjustable arms and I would probably not use down lighting either. You run the risk of it looking like it was leftover from another furniture set-up IMHO.

These are battery operated and from Amz for $115 for the pair. Yours may be hardwired so not an issue, but I am considering this option for a space in my house that needs a little decor lighting.

Ruby, can the plug in or battery operated still be installed as hard wired? That is what I have. They are lovely!

I don't think you've hit the happy medium between farmhouse with the adjustable arms and formal traditional with the brass and shades.

akt - I would not think so but I really have NO clue! I think hard-wired is superior but I don't need light enough in my space to warrant the expense of installing hard-wire sconces. I wonder if these could go over the top of the hard wired "space" and then you could just use something like this until you were ready to move or change.

I believe if you removed a hardwired electrical items, you have to cover it with a metal plate. Your local codes may vary on this.

I would look for another hardwired option. I think you have lots of attractive options but I would,first and foremost, choose something the right footprint.

In regards to your question if managment will care, they will not. No one has sconces but me. The guy who lived here before I did was a maintainence man who added them and a bunch of other upgrades. I guess I am fortunate in that regard! He got a new range, fridge, toilet and installed penants over the island.

He also added stone all around my island which looks so much better than the apartments who only have drywall around the island. :)

I've looked at hundreds of sconces so far. I think a glass shade isn't right for the LR. A frosted shade makes it look bathroomy. Most of the shiny brass looks bathroomy too and many have a clear shade, which disappears on the wall. Then there's the issue of price.

I found this on Build. I think it looks like it belongs in a LR but it's not too formal, the color will stand out on the wall, it's in the gold family but a soft gold, it should complement your paintings and desk, and the price is great. It takes 60W candelabra bulbs and is 12 x 6" so the footprint should be close to what you have now.

I wandered over to Pottery Barn. I was surprised at how many sconces they showed.

I like the double ones too and the middle one that barncatz shows is delicate enough for a pair to work without making it look too busy. I didn't look at double sconces because I assumed the price would increase too much.

I really like the presence the black ones have and how they work with the art.

There may be another less-formal style of the doubles, like the ones barncatz posted. I do like their airiness.

I like the ones with the black shade. They just seem to complete the look. The other one looks too lightweight for this corner of the room.

I'm wondering if there might be too many lamp shades in such close proximity but its hard to find sconces without shades - so maybe lighter shades that don't stand out so much would be better? I can't help but feel that the dark shades are a distraction from the art and kinda seem heavy. But maybe I'm in the minority. FWIW I like these two that barncatz posted earlier or this other one from Pottery Barn.

I hate to nag but I think there is a good chance you might need to patch or at least paint, given the different footprints...

The nice thing about the candle styles is it will make it easier to find a lamp. You really only need a task lamp though because you've added so much interest already.

Agree with Eileen. A task lamp for the desk would be perfect with sconces having shades - or with any sconces for that matter…
