Another black interior door question
Comments (10)The paint is (Benjamin Moore) Impervex Latex High Gloss Metal & Wood Enamel, and it comes pre-made in Black. That's what I get. It's expensive! Here (Boulder, CO) one gallon is $57. The reason I use it is because it's what I was told at the paint store umpteen projects ago. I should probably check out Valspar and / or Behr but a bird in the hand ... and I want all the doors to match. (The SW store is a bit of a drive, which is why I didn't mention it.) For my children's rooms I'm planning on just painting the hall-side of their doors, not the side which faces into their bedrooms. I'm planning that because I don't want to introduce that much black into their rooms and then I'm concerned I'd have to paint their closet doors too. And I don't want to do that either. (lazy) Thank you for asking about my tiles! You are too sweet. They were laid a couple of weeks ago and I just got finished putting the second coat of wall color on. Seriously, I am like one year ahead of schedule. Yea!!! I still have to paint the cabs and then do my gingham effect on the walls, so now I'm one year out again. I think I haven't been really enjoying the tiles yet because they've been covered with a dropcloth and I am instead focusing on what isn't done, instead of enjoying what is. Sister, I am going to turn over a new leaf!...See Morehelp! splitting dining room into office / playroom
Comments (16)Not sure why pressure from other family who aren't living in your house would make you rethink what you want in a house if it wasn't on your radar to begin with. I agree with patricia about having living spaces on your main level be living spaces, and having a separate living space without a TV so adults can separate from kids but still be on the same level. I would make the office space your TV room (den). With doors. Kids toys could be in there too. Regarding the office, what does your upstairs look like? How many bedrooms do you have? If you have 4, you can easily convert one bedroom into an office. Most people respond to that by saying "but I NEED a guest room!" If that's your response, think about how often you have overnight guests, and whether you want to dedicate 144 square feet of your house to guests who will be with you a handful of nights each year (when you think about your house as a cost/SF, think about how much money you're spending for that dedicated space, and how many nights in a hotel it would take to recoup). I am planning on converting our guest room into a play room/guest room, with a murphy bed in the closet for the handful of times we have overnight guests each year. You could do the same with a guest room/office combo. Murphy bed or pull out couch or day bed for overnight guests....See Moreformal living & dining area into office & library
Comments (0)We just bought a home that has a choppy floor plan. The back of the home has a huge family room where most of our time will be spent for hanging out. The front of the home however has what would be a formal living and dining area. We are hoping to make this into an office and area for my husband to watch his soccer while he works but since it is the first thing you see when you walk in I think one office part should be the farther room from the entry. I would love a cozy reading nook with bookshelves for myself also. We do not have furniture yet. My style leans toward modern farmhouse and rustic spaces but not country if that makes sense. Any ideas?...See MoreMove formal dining room to formal living room.
Comments (11)My questions are: Do you use a dining room? For sit-down dinners, I mean. Do you use a living room? It's certainly thinkable to reconfigure these rooms. Serving and clearing up in a dining room that is farther from the kitchen is a little less convenient than when it's adjacent, although a full-grown butler's pantry could include a dishwasher and sink along with storage for the best china, flatware, and glassware (a very traditional layout in a large home). But if you don't use a dining room now, you probably won't in the future. And is your living room mainly for show (and receiving the pastor, etc.)? So many of us essentially live in our family rooms (which might be the den in your current layout) and only use the official living room for special occasions. Sometimes a family room that is open to the kitchen, plus a den for quiet and privacy, makes the most sense. If expanding the kitchen is the top priority and you don't actually use the living room, this could make sense. Or a living room-dining room combination might make sense. But please think carefully about how you actually live in your house....See Moreloobab
