Should I relocate Dee-Lish?

I have Dee-Lish in its second year. It's put on some size and I think it's going to finally going to bloom well this year. It's current location is next to the house foundation facing south where it mostly gets the hottest afternoon sun. Last summer the few blooms it produced didn't last and turned crispy. Should I be patient and see what happens in its third year in the current location? What fragrant rose could handle the spot better?

Right up against a south-facing wall? The wall is radiating heat when the sun is on it, baking your plant. I would move the rose somewhere else and not put another one in that spot.

Take this with a grain of salt because my southern area up against the house is probably not as hot as yours but I have Deelish, Pretty Lady and Princess Anne there and they do fine.

I plan to add Rosemantic Fuschia to the bunch next year so i can report back about that one later

For the NJ rose addicts on this forum: There are Dee-Lish and a couple of other Meilland roses on sale. I planted a mail order bareroot of Dee-Lish this spring, and really should not be buying another one as I had no room. But, alas, the Boscobel I got from Regan has just become the only newly-planted bareroot that did not make it, so there Dee-Lish goes into my shopping cart. I am a big sucker for ADR roses, and I was not gonna pass this one up... hahaha... It is not ownroot, probably grafted on the doctor. This is the by far the best find, for me, that I was able to get out of big boxes other than my first Julia Child. Oh, the store I found it is the Home Depot in Springfield. Happy shopping.

Ah...that makes sense....we didn't get any hotter than 75F. Darn. Just to show you how long Grande Dame lasts - here's the same set of flowers. Unfortunately they got hammered by hail. But if your climate doesn't get serious, thundering rainstorms or hail...it might look beautiful for a long time. Carol

Cynthia, Thanks for your input. I'm sorry your Dee-Lish is not doing anything. I hope mine does not mirror yours. I plan to winterize mine at least this coming winter in spite of its ADR designation. I am finding ADR for me means mostly black spot resistance, but not sufficient winter hardiness to put on any size. With severe winter dieback on so many ADRs I have tried (except for Earth Angel, which by the way, may turn out to be a once blooming rose, it's repeat is so pitiful....but mine is young and just may need time to mature), I am wondering how much credence I should put on an ADR winning rose. Really Cynthia, my main rose growing problem is my obsession with fragrance, which is pretty limiting from the standpoint of fragrant roses' notorious serious disease issues, not to mention winter hardiness problems, too. If fragrance was not my reqirement, especially a rose's, no equal from among any other flower, I would grow daylilies or dahlias! Moses

Both of mine survived this very mild winter. There was some dieback on both, but not much. A consistent snow cover would have been better. Both have grown and leafed out and set buds, but too early for blooms. The new growth is distinguishable because it is deep red and shiny. I'll be thrilled if they're as floriferous as last year. I need this deeper pink in my garden. The color is just a little deeper than Leo da Vinci. Moses' recommendations never fail. Mr. Moses, if you're reading here, welcome back. You won't know what to do with yourself, having been in pain for so long. I'm praying for the speediest recovery on record, and the best gardening year so far!

I might give it another year and water well. NJ is not Arizona. Moving it will be a setback.

In second year the root is still shallow and more sensitive to heat. Below was Dee-lish in its 8th-year as own-root at over 90 F, it's in full-sun. It can handle heat better now than when it was 2nd-year as own-root.

Ok one more year. Thank you everybody and my back thanks you too! Strawchicago, your DeeLish looks amazing. I bet rose sellers would sell many more roses if they used your photos.
