2014 Crop Failure for Dee Lish?
Comments (5)Hmmm...a friend gave me Dee-lish last fall along with a couple others he'd gotten (he knows people and gets early releases he shares sometimes). At the time I wasn't all that thrilled with it but it was free so I accepted it (I'm known for taking in strays, lol). Now I think I might be glad I did (could become rare)...or maybe not depending on why it failed, lol?...See MoreHow is your Dee-Lish working out?
Comments (4)Cynthia, Thanks for your input. I'm sorry your Dee-Lish is not doing anything. I hope mine does not mirror yours. I plan to winterize mine at least this coming winter in spite of its ADR designation. I am finding ADR for me means mostly black spot resistance, but not sufficient winter hardiness to put on any size. With severe winter dieback on so many ADRs I have tried (except for Earth Angel, which by the way, may turn out to be a once blooming rose, it's repeat is so pitiful....but mine is young and just may need time to mature), I am wondering how much credence I should put on an ADR winning rose. Really Cynthia, my main rose growing problem is my obsession with fragrance, which is pretty limiting from the standpoint of fragrant roses' notorious serious disease issues, not to mention winter hardiness problems, too. If fragrance was not my reqirement, especially a rose's, no equal from among any other flower, I would grow daylilies or dahlias! Moses...See MoreHow's your Dee-LIsh doing?
Comments (28)Both of mine survived this very mild winter. There was some dieback on both, but not much. A consistent snow cover would have been better. Both have grown and leafed out and set buds, but too early for blooms. The new growth is distinguishable because it is deep red and shiny. I'll be thrilled if they're as floriferous as last year. I need this deeper pink in my garden. The color is just a little deeper than Leo da Vinci. Moses' recommendations never fail. Mr. Moses, if you're reading here, welcome back. You won't know what to do with yourself, having been in pain for so long. I'm praying for the speediest recovery on record, and the best gardening year so far!...See MoreLove Dee-Lish!!!
Comments (62)Mine was planted last year, so it is not a mature bush. You can see from the picture below that Deelish has a typical hybrid tea V shape and is upright. This picture was taken 6 months after it was planted, in August 2020. The height is about 4&1/2 feet, but you may be able to appreciate from the picture that there were 2 very long canes, both at about 7 feet tall. I think this rose is going to be very tall this year. I won't be surprise that it will get to 6 - 7 feet in overall height. It has already leafing out robustly now in my SF Bay garden. The best feature about Deelish is its fragrance. I have bad sense of smell but I can still appreciate the fragrance is divine. It is probably one of the top 3 most fragrant rose I own. I have heard that the fragrance of Deelish is used in one of well known French perfume?? It is definitely not like Bolero which is compact and round. I have 9 Bolero so I can say they are definitely very different. At least it will get much taller than Bolero. However, the bloom of Deelish is quite English style - more cabbage like....See Morenoseometer...(7A, SZ10, Albuquerque)
