80s Contemporary Exterior Brick Update
Comments (11)Can you paint the siding instead of the brick? They don't really go together. I think one of them needs to be changed. Not desperately--it's not THAT bad. Landscaping would help quite a bit. I don't mind the baby cactus garden, but the white rock stuff on the other side should go. Alllll the white rocks should be removed. Don't pull out the big bush until you have a plan. Sometimes an established plant can nicely anchor a new landscaping scheme. Pruning may of course be in order. There is a helpful landscape design forum here. Blunt, but helpful. :)...See MoreExterior Update! Mismatched Colors: Paint the brick?
Comments (27)I copied and expanded a piece of your brick, and you can see the pink in it. So your brick is a pink-beige. Sometimes described as beige with red undertones. That's why the yellowish siding doesn't look quite right, and IMO the copper, although very beautiful on its own, doesn't complement the brick. (If you had a sweater the colour of your brick, you wouldn't wear it with an orange/copper shirt, I hope.) Here's an article about working with pink-beige. It's an easy colour to go wrong with. The article talks about interiors but the advice would also apply when you were looking for a siding colour, for example. I wouldn't use sage green with it - the example shown above is a very popular one, often re-posted. The orange brick looks great with sage green. But orange brick is not what you have. I am a fan of almost any brick colour and I'm from Toronto where everything is brick and nobody paints it. But if this were my house I would paint it. Use a coating meant for brick such as Romabio, not a regular exterior paint meant for wood....See MoreUpdating Exterior of a 1960s Red Brick Rambling Ranch
Comments (8)I think the house is very attractive, but I would want to amp up the landscaping. Is that a circular driveway or just a walkway? I guess either way, I would add some dimension by landscaping this side of the concrete where the grass is. Not all the grass, but an area close to the concrete. Create a bed (a large one the length of the house at least) with berms and ornamental trees and plants. None of these is ideal, but just to give you an idea of what I'm suggesting....See MoreHelp with brick tudor exterior update
Comments (14)I would look at the Tudor corbels on the homes that BeverlyFLADeziner posted. You can see how they are sort of chunky, as if cut of timber. Nothing huge, but subtle. I think those could enhance the structure of a pergola on your home. Corbels are usually found on porches, gable ends, etc. You could have a conventional pergola with those as the support pieces. Painted the trim color of your choice....See MoreLauren S
