Comments (6)I've got a narrow but tall built in cabinet on one of the walls in my master bath where I keep nail polishes/remover and perfumes, basically the breakables. I've got my makeup supplies in a smallish tote w/ a handle for daily taking out/putting back under the sink, and the larger or less used stuff is in a larger tote also under the sink, which I can just kind of slide out a bit and get what I need. DBF has the same set up on his side (instead of make-up he's got shaving supplies & hair product in his smaller bin). DD's toiletries are a bit more of a challenge to keep organized, and what I have just recently done is to put an unused over the door clear plastic shoe organizer over the back of her bathroom door. Now she's got earrings, necklaces, bracelets, nail polishes, barrettes, scrunchies, hairspray, gel, make up, skin creams, lanyards for school id, etc. etc. etc. all separated, visible and easily accessible. I'm hoping this will keep her more organized. Larger items are stowed in her now mostly empty vanity drawers. Nat...See MoreDid you put a make-up table in your vanity? Do you use it?
Comments (17)itltrot, I love your drawer for hair appliances. Do you have the hairdryer plugged in somewhere in the vanity, or do you use the outlet I see above the counter? How deep is your counter? Ours will be pretty narrow, about 18 inches; I don't know if that should affect my decision or not. Finally, I see the full run of the countertop is the same height. May I ask how high the counter is? I feel like 30 inches is a typical table/desk height, but most vanities are about 35 inches high. Did you make that counter 30 inches or so high? I'd prefer to have one long counter and not break it up into 2 levels, so the vanity will be low enough to sit at comfortably....See MoreAre recessed lights over a vanity good for makeup and washing up?
Comments (7)Whether or not you want to spend the extra money to add a side sconce depends on how the bathroom is going to be used. If it’s a lesser-used hall guest bathroom or an en-suite guest bathroom, do you really need to have the lighting be make-up compatible? If it’s a powder room that is often used by guests when you entertain, yes I’d do a wall sconce where the light source is about eye level, because it’ll be so often-used and will look prettier with a sconce. If you’re trying to simplify, and nobody is going to be doing make-up in there, you can save money by not doing a sconce (cost of fixture and electrician). If someone will often be using this bathroom to do make-up because there are a bunch of teenaged girls vying for mirror-time, yes, do the sconce. If you have guests often and you know they want to do make-up, yes....See MoreTiled base or fiberglass insert for stand up shower?
Comments (16)Julieste, i am not sure. if you have a tiled walls inside of shower, adding tile to floor would look the best, there’s no comparison. I have looked at fiberglass bases but they just do not fit well into a completely tiled bathroom. However, I do believe the insert is the safer option in regards to leakage. However, if not properly installed and sealed will run risk of leakage as well. I have a walk in shower on the first floor of my current home now. it has a tiled base inside. However, it is on the first floor with concrete underneath. it is a raised ranch so no basement. My new build will be a two story with a basement. I just do not want to run into problems with it leaking downstairs into the ceiling. However, I do want a modern bathroom as everything else will be modern. The fiberglass insert is basically like comparing a tub with tile vs tub with plastic insert. There’s no question that tile looks way better....See MorePatricia Thorpe
