Make-up tables in bathroom - Put one in or leave it out?
Comments (21)We put one in and I love it. I sit down there several times a day. I agree that if you have to sacrifice needed storage, then don't do it, but it sounds like you have plenty of storage. Plan for as much natural light as you can...I was doing new construction on this part of the plan, so put a window right in front of the makeup area. I also wanted it close to a sink so I could rinse my hands while applying makeup. I use it primarily for makeup and grooming, as my hair care doesn't include dryers/irons/etc but does include several different goopy products...so I prefer to do that at the sink. Good luck! Comments (6)I've got a narrow but tall built in cabinet on one of the walls in my master bath where I keep nail polishes/remover and perfumes, basically the breakables. I've got my makeup supplies in a smallish tote w/ a handle for daily taking out/putting back under the sink, and the larger or less used stuff is in a larger tote also under the sink, which I can just kind of slide out a bit and get what I need. DBF has the same set up on his side (instead of make-up he's got shaving supplies & hair product in his smaller bin). DD's toiletries are a bit more of a challenge to keep organized, and what I have just recently done is to put an unused over the door clear plastic shoe organizer over the back of her bathroom door. Now she's got earrings, necklaces, bracelets, nail polishes, barrettes, scrunchies, hairspray, gel, make up, skin creams, lanyards for school id, etc. etc. etc. all separated, visible and easily accessible. I'm hoping this will keep her more organized. Larger items are stowed in her now mostly empty vanity drawers. Nat...See MoreMaster bathroom vanity with make-up table
Comments (5)I had a vanity area with two drawers running parallel to the top; it was between both sinks in my last house. The makeup section dropped down four or five inches or so from the sink vanity counters but had the same marble top. I really liked it because I could sit while making up and I had a nice lighted free standing magnifying mirror. In the house I am in now storage took priority as there is only one hall closet to service another bath and towels and all the rest on that end that includes three bedrooms. In this house I put vertical storage in the section I wanted a makeup vanity and a bank of drawers underneath, that still left a bit of countertop as the top section vertical is only twelve inches deep. However, I have wall mounted extension magnifying mirrors at each sink vanity and IâÂÂm actually very happy with that. If you do not need much extra storage go for the makeup vanity. All you need is a horizontal drawerâÂÂs bridge piece between the two sink vanities. Just make sure you position your bridge at a height compatible for comfortable vanity chair height. Edited to add: Also make sure you have a plug in that area. Is this a DIY? If so, you could look on ScherrâÂÂs where you could buy the cabinets all put together with the middle bridge with drawers or check out Conestoga. I buy my cabinets from Conestoga but you do have to assemble. This post was edited by jterrilynn on Thu, Jan 29, 15 at 21:05...See MoreDo you have a makeup vanity/dressing table in your bedroom?
Comments (39)Yes I have a nook in my bedroom outside the walk-in closet that was designed to fit my old vanity. I told the architect that if my vanity didn't fit, he was fired! The vanity I got when I was about 8 years old...part of a french provincial bed set, white with gold trim. In the 80s, I refinished it, marbelized the top and changed out the hardware. The mirror and the wall sconces were salvaged from the old house that was here before we built. The capiz shell sconces were over the fireplace. In covid days, I rarely do makeup any more, but I've used the vanity a lot. The angled lighted makeup mirror is key for seeing one's face and making the set up work....See MorePatricia Thorpe
