Fwiw, I just mixed faux-marble quartz (Lagoon) with a Carrera backsplash and at least in it's pre-grouted state, I'm really happy. It was hard for me to find a backsplash that worked well with the grey-ish tones of the Lagoon, mostly because my cabinets are painted taupe. Anything that "matched" the cabinets seemed too brownish for the counters. The Carrera blends the two perfectly. I think it also works because I wound up using a very small-scale herringbone pattern, so the patterns in the marble tiles are less pronounced. Fwiw, I don't see the calacutta tiles that the OP posted working with a greyish quartz that's similar to Lagoon, and I'd also be concerned about pattern overload with a subway tile. But having worried about the fake-next-to-real problem, I wanted to at least add my experience that it can be done. One of the prettiest kitchens on here, done by a pro, is GW user @kompy, who used a different marble subway with Lagoon counters, and it looks stunning.

your interest really was in the look of the space.....which is valid. Even after accomplishing the switch to a range or that kind of upgrade, one can still be unhappy with their space if every time they walk by or walk into it, the old surfaces jar your nerves and personal aesthetic. But the space really would have me looking at a whole appliance package, and ditto the range on the perimeter concept. Yes-fridge/dishwasher AND range....figure something out with above range microwave or hood with maybe small countertop microwave. And once that "package" got worked through the budget, think about the perimeter in laminate or solid surface and maybe a contrast for the island of quartz or butcher block . I might consider Ikea or a basic butcher block for everywhere-it can be really reasonable....knowing you may do a "gut" remodel later. Just enjoy the wood look, oil it up frequently right away....and just let it take the wear and tear knowing the counters and cabinets will be replaced. I would probably even just leave the painted wall for backsplash....with the decent cabinets and some new hardware and either laminate or wood on counters, and new appliances, you'd be really in a good position for a while.

It is heavy on barn wood. Skip the frou frou. I do not believe that it would look like a country quilt if you did a pattern across the entire backsplash. It would just look busy, detract from the overall starkness and soak up all available light which is an issue. If you wanted to do it in one particular area it might be ok, although I think it more probable it would look cheesy. I dislike tile because you cannot easily install anything, and once installed, you cannot change it without leaving an obvious mark. You do have several things that would go through the tile are you completely happy with them/their locations? Personally, I would consider a band of berwyn or torquay, as they are shiny enough to reflect light, the band should be tall enough to make the light switches on the left look vertically centered and then paint the rest white.

I think the two together would be too busy,,especially in that format. if you want marble, go w/the larger (3x12) tiles. not this random linear tile. another option would be a gray subway, set in a herringbone. a lot of people really like that or a gray glass, longer tile, like this one or these white arabesque tiles would also worktilebar has these these have a slight greenish cast that picks up on the granite
