At first glance, your layout does not seem to be to scale. For example the bathroom + closet is about 15'10" together (5'4" + 4.5" + 10'1"). The bathroom + closet takes almost the complete length of your bedroom which says is 22'2" long. There is a 6'4" difference. My first idea is to take the whole West side of the bedroom for your bathroom and create a new closet at the bottom of the bedroom but I think I would like to confirm that the measurements are correct even if the drawing does not appear to be to scale.

@PPF. Anything except for windows. The entire lower level is unfinished and easily accessible. There are no structural walls in the bathroom area so I have the freedom to move whatever around. The wall between the primary and bathroom is a load bearing wall

@thinkdesignlive I could, but would not want to lose the bedroom. Additionally I am not the type to need a giant closet. The one pictured is a good size, though I'm willing to relocate that also.

@suzanne_m I agree the drawing is not to scale in the bathroom. These are the plans from the builder, though I also have construction plans I can dig out. (the house is already built we just bought it - 2nd owners - the house is roughly 6 months old) The overall measurements of the space are correct though

Suzanne suggested putting a reach-in closet at the bottom of the bedroom. It’s a good idea. 11+’ is a spacious closet! and a good sound separator from the other bedroom. And then you have plenty of room in the bathroom for a tub and for a linen cabinet of some kind.

We also need the size and the location of the windows and how high they are from the floor.

One option:

I added a console table in the entrance of your bedroom to make it feel more spacious.

I also moved the closet in the secondary bedroom but I saw that there is a pocket door at the bottom of the bedroom so it might not be possible to place the bed on that wall.

Those look good Suzanne - I’d pocket door the one to the toilet - not a safe idea to in swing that.

Thanks thinkdesignlive. I initially put a pocket door but then realized that you would not be able to mount a towel bar for the sink on the right and I changed it for a standard door. That was a bad judgement call, safety and comfort are more important than being able to mount a bar ... and there are easily other options.

@suzanne_m do we think the only way to accomplish a tub is to take space from the secondary bedroom? its a small space already and id hate to further reduce it.

The layouts I drew don't take space from the secondary bedroom. In fact, if you are happy with a reach-in closet instead of a WIC, you could easily give 2 more ft to the secondary bedroom and your master bedroom would be 18'0"x16'1".

@User, of course, moving plumbing around is costly and the less I have to do the better, but the original post specifically requests a tub, so its not negotiable. If I'm not putting a tub in I'll leave it as is. It's a ranch style home, so in all honestly its better to "age in place" more so than 90% of the homes in this area (very few ranch style homes).

Re: pocket door, we put a pocket door on a bathroom. I don’t know how he did it, but two double towel bars were on that wall. When we moved 4 years later, the double towel bars with still in place snd the pocket door undamaged. Bathroom was used by two young boys and guests so it wasn’t ”babied”.

Tanya, Suzanne's version is what I was thinking of. And no the room for the closet wasn't taken from the second bedroom. It was taken from your very large bedroom and your bedroom was made smaller, but still a very nice size. Enough for a king bed, nightstands, and a dresser.

In fact, I'd take a few more inches from the master to make the closet a full 7' deep which is ideal for hanging clothing on either side.

I agree. 2" taken from your large bedroom won't make a difference but 2" given in your WIC will.
