Does anyone have a GE Profile Induction cooktop?

We had one installed in our new build in August. The humming sound it makes is terrible. GE says these sounds are normal and refuses to replace it. I'm looking for a video to compare the sound to find out if all GE Profiles sound like this. (They replaced the burners and control board and there was no change.) We had a GE Induction range in the previous house and the sound was not like this.

We had a Profile induction in our last house. A capacitor popped just as the warranty expired. GE was kind enough to replace after a lot of terse exchanges. I don’t recall a loud hum but a slight one during use. Good luck!

Is anyone having the same problem I am with the GE Profile induction cooktop Model PHP9036SJ1SS with the burners going out? My first cooktop was installed beginning Nov 2015. The large center and right two burners went out after I heard a "pop" the day after Thanksgiving. Since this was a new unit, GE came and replaced them. Then the left two burners went out shortly after. GE ended up replacing the whole cooktop. A brand new unit was installed Jan. 7, 2016 and this past Friday, the center and right two burners are out again!! Heard the same "pop" noise. Am waiting for the repairman tomorrow but thought I would reach out and see if anyone else is having as much problems as I am. I love cooking on induction and all my appliances in my kitchen is the GE Profile line.

If the induction cooktop vents underneath the counter as the Cooktek does, and the GE above appears to do, but the Electrolux and Kenmore don't, then more space is needed to allow air to circulate without getting too hot and potentially harming the electronics or causing the electronics to self protect by cutting power. The other issue is chassis construction and what UL might demand for spacing from combustibles. My guess (while awaiting word from the GE engineer response noted above) is that there may be a fear that electronics failures of certain types could cause hot spots or melt-throughs in the bottom cover, or sparks from the vent slots. An arc current below the 50A breaker limit might cause some serious metal erosion before it burned out. My choice was to use wire pull-out drawers and store pots and pans in that space. kas

Hi: If anyone has the ge profile cooktop PP945BMBB could you tell me what the surface looks like. The on line and book talk about patterned glass, but the picture on line looks like solid black. I saw a similar model in a store and it was solid. I really want the "flecks" in the cooktop and not solid. tia

Cookware can make a difference. You might try one of these which make no sound on my LG induction range: IKEA 365+ Frying pan, ANNONS Pot, IKEA 365+ Saucepan.

We’ve had ours for 6 years. Use mostly ikea pans and never any buzzing.

Pans made with layers of different metals can vibrate. Try carbon steel fry pans to see if this is your situation.

We’ve also had ours for 6 years. Some pans hum, others do not. Try some better pans.

We will try to change pans. We currently use Tramontina Tri-Ply which worked great on our last induction range. We now have some All-Clad fry pans which also buzz. Cast iron is a little better but they are so dang heavy. Thank you for your suggestions.

Interesting. My Tramontina tri-ply hardly make any noise with my Wolf induction cooktop.

Take your existing noisy pans into the store you purchased the cooktop from. Try them on other manufacturers induction cooktops and on a GE Profile. Hopefully, they have something for demo. Or try them at another location. You need to gather evidence of the problem. Use your phone to capture examples at home and while you're out.

French carbon steel pans are like cast iron to some extent, but a lot lighter.

I use All-clad on a Wolf induction range. No noise problem.
