Last weekend the handle seized as it was pulled upward to lock the active door. After first removing, oiling and replacing the inside door handle, I repeated the process on the outside door handle with no luck. Today, I tried Kashmi's July 6, 2011 post regarding pushing out on the door while pushing down on the handle. This senior citizen had to alternate the pushing of door and handle, but with gradual movement of both. Finally gave it all I had left and the door opened! I've oiled the parts not accessible when the doors are closed and they operate better than when new. Thank you for the knowledge that it was not just this door lock that had jammed and the help to resolve the problem.

I was told several months ago that Marvin is evaluating some "contemporary" handle options for both the sliding and the sliding French door. My guess is that they will release something soon. In the meantime, unless you have a satin taupe, white or dark bronze handle I would return the one you have for one of those (these are the least expensive options). There are quite a few options for the sliding French door from other manufacturers but Nobilus is the only one that I know of for the sliding patio door.

That handle probably has a square shaft that operates the latch. The handles are probably held in place with allen set screws. You can often buy repair parts from a hardware or home improvement store(or on the internet). If you broke the handle, you should be able to get a handle(or two to match. If you broke the square shaft, get the shaft from a store(listed above).

Any highly rated spray paint for the material type. Assuming the handle is metal? If done properly, it should last a long time. Powdercoat would always be more durable, but you can achieve durability with quality paint too. Put on plenty of coats and wet sand between them. Then finish with a coat or two of clear coat.
